Buddy's new, old, collar lol

I was gonna post these in the Random Photo thread but, as usual, my story got too long! LOL I didn't want to clog up that thread, so here goes........

Short story to go along with these pics.

A LONG time ago, when we had our first Doberman, hubby and I went to a county fair. They had a bunch of really nice collars for sale so we thought we would buy one for our guy, Duke. Well, without the dog there it was a toss up for size. Neither one of us could remember his size, but obviously, we thought he was bigger than he was.

When we came home, this thing looked like it would fit an elephant instead of our Doberman. And I thought he was a large Doberman! I think he was almost as tall as Buddy (but I'd have to check) but he was way slimmer. Not as big boned as Buddy and he was always hard to put weight on so he was on the skinny side. We had to laugh at our 'expectations' with this collar! It looked HUGE and bulky. I put it away, wondering when we would EVER use it.

Weeeeelllll, I 'found' it again yesterday and tried it on. It's on the shortest hole, but it fits! It probably would fit a Mastiff on the last hole. lol! But it's not bad at all. The buckle part still looks a bit bulky and it looked so wide, but its only an inch and a half!

All in all, for how big and bulky it feels in my hand, I don't think it looks too bad on him.











When I look at these pictures, they make it look smaller than it is.

Here it is side by side with the one that Ingrid made for Buddy and it fits perfectly.

I think it's the wider ends and larger rings that really make it feel so large. But its still not bad and I'm glad that I am able to finally use it!

LOL How True! I'll bet this would be a ton more than what we paid for it back then too.

Very nice collar and I agree that it looks great on him! I found something like that the other day doing some deep cleaning too (forget what it was now) and it's such a bonus surprise when you forgot all about it.

Looks great, and when you put the two clears side by side they look the same length. I think you are right that it's because it's more chunky than his True collar that it seems bigger.

LOL Believe it or not, I love 'deep cleaning'. I love to clean out closets or drawers and reorganize. Weird, huh? I love the its clean but I also like the you "find" things you forgot about sometimes! lol Sometimes its just a reminder of what you have!

Thank you! I love Ingrids too! I told her I wanted something with the stars because I thought it gave it a 'western horseman' look and she flew with it and designed the rest! I think its beautiful!

I know, it was amazing when I put them together and they were about the same length! I really prefer the tapered ends of Ingrids though!

The boys have that same collar but it fits them..it might be a smaller size but how funny ..small world they have black and red ones!

Interesting! Do you know how old mine is? Probably about 15 years or so! And never used until now.

You know, Buddy didn't for a while either. Little by little I was acquiring more and I also wanted him to be visible in case of hunters and such and got the bright orange too. I soon got to where I liked having one on him ! Although I do more or less 'save' the nicer leather collars for special times.
