Blue Doberman troubleshooting

That’s what I would do.

He will not like the Vetericyn being sprayed on so be well positioned and ready for that. I would put him in a sink to provide physical boundaries and saturate his ears. Be careful not to get it down into his inner ear- maybe put some balled up paper towel in the ear bells first.

Then let dry and put abx ointment on it.

Yes, what is mentioned already. I would leave the ears open, don't post or tape, try to get them to heal. You have a short crop, I think the ears will be fine to not post for a while. Keep watching the black area, if it spreads you really need to consult a vet. It may heal on it's own, but if you wrap the ears you won't know.

If those black scabs are indeed necrotic tissue , can it spread throughout the whole ear ?
In my experience dealing with humans, I see this a lot with fingers and toes. There is really not much the general surgeons do besides clean it very often and make sure it’s sterile. Then the dead necrotic tissue flakes and falls off.

The issue with your pup is that it still looks agitated and inflamed so I question whether or not it may spread some.

If it were me…I would make specific note of the edges and look again tomorrow to see if it has spread. In the hospital, we actually take a magic marker and mark the borders.

I really don’t mean to give you advice and you act on it and it gets worse. The only reason that I go into specific detail is that some folks don’t have access to a vet and just don’t know what to do.

Outside of a vet, the only thing one can do is to clean it good, and put abx ointment to calm it down.

Ohhh…one can also place a warm wash cloth on the ear spots to dilate the arteries/capillaries and promote blood supply to the necrotic areas.

I sure wish you the best of luck and really hope you keep us updated.

Good afternoon I’ve been cleaning with the vetercyn and applying antibiotic cream. In my opinion I think it’s healing better

good afternoon everybody merry Christmas, I have been keeping with the routine of cleaning and applying ointments every 2-3 days or so and having him be with a cone. Just the other day when he was playing with the other dogs he managed to completely take his scabs off. I figured I would just clean and continue with the same process. I took pictures of them this morning and I’d like to get some opinions on how they look. I’m not to sure on how they’re going

I honestly don't know what to tell you since it still looks worrisome to me. The left ear looks like it has a nick taken out of it and I'm pretty sure that will never come back.

Yes I have come to realize that those parts of the ears won’t come back unfortunately but with what I am more concerned is on how to get his wounds to fully heal for posting

Tbh, that does not look as bad as I thought it was going to turn out. I do not see as much black/purple tissue as before. So, looks like she is over the tissue necrosis and just needs to heal up now.

Yes, she will have notches on the sides of her ears but with the growth of ear hair, it may not be as noticeable as you think.

My concern now would be the wetness I see in the pictures. Is this from wound care spray or abx ointment or is it pus/serous fluid coming from the wound?

I would keep doing what you are doing…spray, clean, air out some and then abx ointment. To me, it does actually look as if it wants to heal and get better.

You could post this but must be careful not to cover nor tape that area. It is doable but more difficult than normal posting.

Yes the wetness is from antibiotic ointment that I use on him. Yeah I’m going to keep on with the same process only this time I’ll be more careful with him trying to take the scab off

Hello happy new year. Checking in with an update on my pup. His scabs are almost gone. The tenderness is gone. I don’t really see any more black tissue anymore. I’m just waiting for them to fully heal so I can post. I had a question, will the posting work if I was to wait another week or two? Considering his surgery was about a month and some change back
