Asha loves the rope hanging from the tree in the back yard. But mostly only if I'm there to watch. And especially if I grab the end of it and pull it far enough that her back feet can barely touch the ground. Far into the video I say a simple one-word command "out" and she instantly drops it. I'm pretty proud of her out! I videoed up the rope to show the spring it hangs from. A spring is a game changer, it "plays back" when she pulls on it. Yes, I need a new rope, this one is now 3 tied together...

I started it as a puppy, so I don't know how well it translates for an older dog set on holding a prized possession. I used a tug with handles on each end so I had a better grip for training the out and playing actively. Play super active doing the tug o war game, then stop all the action, and when puppy tugs trying to stir up action, no response, just stay still. Sometimes they will let go, like "what? you're not pulling!?" but most won't let go... I say "out" softly and lift up slowly on the collar (keep holding the tug with one hand) as you lift up on the puppy they will release and at that instant let go of the collar, and give the tug back (hang on to the handles!) and resume the game. Tug tug tug, then stop/freeze/no action, repeat the out, then again pull straight up (slowly, gently! this is not a correction!) on the collar to make the release happen. Never beg, or repeat "out", or pull the tug out of her mouth - she must let go. The higher possession, the longer it will take, but most dogs with high possession also have a very high prey drive. The game starting up again is the reward and for a high prey drive dog no food is better than getting to play tug again. Once they learn "out" I would do this with the tug (where you have more control with your end of holding it) until it's very reliable, then try it with another toy or ball (you are interacting with but not holding on to). I always use a marker when the game ends. No Mas, We're Through, All Done. Choose a blunt statement and be consistent with it. But make it clear the game is over. I always walked away with the tug/ball and put it away, I never let her keep it after the game is over. This built the excitement of me being part of the game!
 
Love this! She’s just hanging out haha. Must be a lot of fun and also gets some energy out. She sure is a gorgeous girl!

I’ll be getting one once Pepper has teeth and is older.
 
Wow, what a grip! Don't they call that a stationary spring pole/rope? Pit Bull owners use those a lot.

My friend has one for his pitbull and he’s obsessed lol hangs and hangs and gets super ripped muscles from it. My fiend doesn’t do much with the poor dog.
Now I want one for Pepper when she’s old enough. I can only imagine she’ll be the same way as Asha!

I don't know about spring poles, we just made this up (obviously). I guess you'd have to buy one if you didn't have a perfect tree branch though. I looked and most are like this one on Amazon, and it wouldn't work for my dog. She goes as high as she can so she can hang. She'd cut those skinny ropes in two in no time. I buy the fattest cotton rope I can find and she's cut through 3 of them now. Also that polypropylene rope will burn if it slides through and grazes their skin. Anyone who's had to hang on to a horses lead rope and they jerk away knows fat cotton ropes are easier to hang on to. * now everyone goes out to scan the trees in their yard * LOL.

You’re correct I was out looking at branches last night 😉😂 of course had the trees trimmed last spring 👎
