Anyone out near Metropolis IL or Paducah Ky or know a breeder/vet out here who posts? Got a proposition.

Hi from Metropolis IL

This may be silly but we're at wits end so:
(No advice on "post at home" please.)

We are having high trouble with posting ears, we had a doberman vet out by our old house but live 3hrs away now.
His ears are almost done and rapidly hardening at nearly 4.5 mo
But has been unposted for 4 days or so due to tape complications that caused sores.
Back taping is probably our best bet but:

We have tried for a good bit to post ourselves using treats to calm our puppy
We have tried 3 or so methods with complications to most, or they just do not stay in no matter what we try
Glue or not
Tape or not etc
Or we have to pin down our puppy and it's all just largely awful for him and us.
We struggle with the frustation it all causes and just absolutely cannot seem to get it right and are running out of time on the creased ear. (Cartilage literally on both feels thicker ever day)
He hates getting posted now by us and it's harming our bond.

He only posts more calmly for vets or people he doesn't know as well.

Bum ear does stand right now if he sniffs alot outside and lifts his head it's stays up a short few min b4 flopping right back over.

So does anyone nearby (within 60miles, 1hr) have experience with the zip tie method and back taping? We will compensate you for your time and travel to you.
We just cannot keep trying and failing him or stressing him out like this by ourselves.

Melrae Dobermans is located in Pudach, KY. @Rits do you think Melissa would help? Or knows someone who can?
They could ask but she is currently in MI right now for the show that just happened this past weekend since she is chief ring steward for the club. She doesn't have experience with the zip tie method.

I would definitely try to get the ears back up in posts. Tape around the sores and use an adhesive remover to gently remove tape.

Oh okay! I think I overlooked the part about the zip tie method lol. I believe somewhere there is a list of people who are willing to help with posting. I think it may have been shared on this group before? I’ll look and see if I can find it! You can also try posting on FB in some of the ear cropping/posting groups.

I agree! Where are the sores located? If you have any backer rod you can try the half post method for now (not sure if it can be done with zip ties).

Do you have a Toppl or Kong? Maybe try stuffing that with some wet food, and you can even freeze it so it lasts a bit longer. When I first started posting I would have someone help me keep Remy still. Then after 2 weeks or so of doing that I started posting him by myself and would occupy him with a little bit of food. I found it easier than giving a treat every now and then if he was being really squirmy. Eventually the puppy gets used to posting and you can just do it while they sit/stand still.

Don’t lose hope! He is young and although it may feel like his ears are almost done, you have a lot of time to post still! I hope you are able to find someone who can help. 🤞🏻

Our breeder (Melrae) is a member of Paducah Kennel Club so maybe she would know someone from the club who could help you out. Otherwise most of her contacts are in MI.
