Annie's first play date

What a fun day for Annie today! And it turns out I'm glad I have a girl right now. Because my neighbor has a new male Bull Mastiff puppy (just weeks younger than Annie) and one of my girlfriends just adopted a 9 month old male Springer Spaniel. And she lives less than 5 minutes away.

Both being puppies and both being males helped make me feel comfortable playing with Annie. Each of us have been waiting on puppy shots and/or acclimating to their new home before introduction.

Now that Annie is finished with her shots and my girlfriend with the Springer Spaniel feels that he is acclimated enough to meet a pal, we got together today! She has a fenced in area where we can let them go free and have some fun!

When Annie and I first walked up to the gate where my friend and her dog were, she started barking and raising the hair on her back! I told my friend, maybe we shouldn't come in there just yet. We let them greet each other through the fence for a few minutes and soon they were both play bowing and eager to meet! They couldn't wait to get at each other to play.

So I brought Annie in and took off her leash and collar. At first Annie was the aggressor. My friend's dog was looking at her kind of like a guy would look at a chick who's a little crazy! LOL But soon they were chasing each other all over the place! Really fun to watch!




They finally got tired!


Then my friend went and got her 9 year old Springer Spaniel to introduce him to Annie through the fence.


Next she brought out her four year old Great Dane! She's very gentle!


Both of those we only introduced through the fence. But later when we put them on leashes Bella the Dane and Annie seemed like they could have played well together. They both were playbowing and interested in playing. Maybe one day we'll try them in the fenced area too. I've seen her play with the springers and she is very gentle for a large dog.

Back home and this is what our play date produced!


It was a fun day and I really think her 9-month-old Springer Spaniel, Frazier and Annie will be good friends and have lots of play dates!

Real soon! He's about done with his shots! My husband had to go over there to help them with something electrical and he got to see him before I did. He says he's really cute! And very low key compared to Annie! LOL

Isn't every dog low key compared to a Doberman Looks a great time for all the dogs! I like the age gap with Bella, if you're worried about SSA, I don't think it should come up since Annie is just a visiting dog.

Thank you. You're probably right. . I always think about it since it's talked about here so much. But my friend was showing me videos of the 9-month-old Springer and her great dane playing together and the Dane just seems so gentle. And given a little more time Annie will be even bigger so I'll be game to see how they do together.

There is another one of our Horse Friends who has a three year old female Doberman. All three of us used to ride together. But this other friend lost her horse and hasn't had one since. From the moment they met Buddy they loved him and totally turned to the breed! I think this 3-year-old is either their second, or maybe their third by now. Their daughter even got into Dobermans. I'm not in close contact with this girl as much. But her and the girl I was visiting get together ever so often and walk their dogs together. They want me to come walking with them at some point.

I just love this! Thanks for sharing! She looks like she had a blast! I'm sure she will do well with the other spaniel and the Dane once they are all on the same side of the fence.

Well, yesterday I happen to see my neighbor next door and her Bullmastiff puppy out walking. I waved to her and quickly put Annie on a leash. Last time we spoke we talked about letting both the pups run loose in my horse pasture. They had already been introduced on leash and seemed so eager to go and play! But we each had them on leash and they couldn't go far. I told her my pasture would probably be a pretty safe place to let them run. I would have control of Annie through the e-collar so my neighbor's dog would follow.

So I met up with her and we let the dogs run! Oh my goodness they had so much fun!

Her bullmastiff is a few weeks younger than Annie and I think he was the first to run to Mama and say enough! LOL They ran around for probably less than 5 minutes, but at full speed.

Then we made them sit down while we talked to let them cool down and calm down. We talked about our puppies and how happy we both were with them. Both of us lost our last dogs within a year of each other. Buddy passed first. Then her dog maybe 6 months later. And both of us went without another for a few years. When she was talking about getting a Bullmastiff puppy again I was happy for her and figured he would probably be my new buddy too. And then suddenly Annie came along. And she came home before her puppy came home! Such a turn of events that we both ended up with puppies within weeks of each other!

And once again, having a female worked out for the best. I've had two male Dobermans and honestly would have picked another male if it was available. But this couldn't have worked out better. Having two friends with male puppies I feel much more comfortable letting them play together. Buddy was not that friendly with my neighbors last male bullmastiff. In fact, at the end I had to always be careful and watch when she was out walking before I let Buddy out. I told her yesterday there was a time that I thought perhaps the aggression had started and it was when her dog playfully jumped on her. Buddy seemed to take offense to that! It seemed ever since then he was a little aggressive toward him. And it was always a worry.

So, through no choice of my own LOL I have a little girl and it's worked out for the best!

Oh, yea, she was still like a darn rabbit! I had to insist she sit/lay/settle! She wanted to go go, go! My neighbor said she is more like her last Bullmastiff! I said, she is like a Thoroughbred! But there's times when she is wound up and you think she'll never stop. And the next thing you know, she's sleeping.

Yes, they are too! She says they had a lot of problems with their last little guy with breathing and sores between all the skin folded over on his face. They are really happy with him.
