And just like that, he's gone

We have a new measurement of time: BK - Before Kaiser, DK - During Kaiser, and AK - After Kaiser.

Before he graduated to stallion status, he was my little trouble making donkey. In those days, I would often remark that this dog caused marital troubles, but in his absence, we realize how much of a bridge Kaiser was between us. DK, we could never decide who was at fault (well, I knew it was my hb hah), but we had great team work for managing all his needs including daily updates on all things Kaiser. AK, I gave my hb the credit he deserves for bringing home the most amazing little boy into our lives. We are also finally at a place where we can smile at the memories and laugh at the many silly moments and beautiful memories Kaiser left us with.

Two months AK, we have made pretty much every different meal, and for each meal, I would point out what parts were Kaiser's favorite. He loved nearly everything and wanted to sample it all and I loved that about him. My hb said to me: Is there anything he DIDN'T like? 🙂 I had to think about it: Broccoli and pomegranate lol. I Ioved sharing carrots with him because of how he ate them: Those giant chompers going crunch and how the pieces used to fly out of his mouth, it was hilarious. When I would go into the pantry, he would always follow me in and I wondered, what's in here that has his interest. Well, AK, I've been in that pantry by myself everyday, and I figured out the answer: I was in there 🥰 I was what he was interested in 🥹 We shared our pantry time like some of you share bathroom time. DK I used to wonder where he got some of his personality traits and whether his parents were like that. AK I realize that he had a lot of traits from US and it's been touching to recount them.

There was a FaceBook page about Dobermans that I had been reading. So many people announcing the passing of their beloved companions. Some of the Dobes lived long lives, like 14 and 15, but if you read enough of these posts, you also saw how many died far too young. Regardless of the ages, the common thread in all those posts was the sheer heartbreak caused by the loss. Some of the people even said they never got over it 😥 BK, we would never have guessed that we could love anything so much. Kaiser has not just been an eye opening experience, but a heart opening experience. He was a true lesson on living in the moment and enjoying the time, because it's never enough. And when we think about the future time we won't have with him, it brings back all the tears.

Kaiser's last sunset.

😭 That got me this morning. I've been sick for 2 weeks and absent here and come back to read this! I must still be pretty fragile cuz that one went straight to the heart.🤧

My introductory thread for Kaiser was called "Here comes Kaiser!" and I named it that way because Kaiser entered our lives as a whirlwind, stirring things up, racing by, and we've just been trying to keep up with the impossible pace he sets. Then, the whirlwind stops and it's just us left. He's gone.

Kaiser left our lives on Monday, December 9, 2024. He had been doing fine until he wasn't. It was sudden and unexpected. He previously had a cold and cough and recovered, this time, it was different, he wouldn't recover. I was half hoping for a pneumonia diagnosis at best, or DCM at worst. Either way, optimistic that medicine would help buy time. The terrible news was lung cancer. The beast that had been a moving brick wall all these years, had turned to dust on the inside. The x-rays undeniable. His condition deteriorated quickly through Sunday night and he was euthanized in hospital on Monday.

He left behind his worldly possessions proving that those things don't matter, and we are left to grieve the one thing that mattered most to us.

This picture is the wallpaper on my computer. I took that shot with him leading the way and us trying to keep up. Now the picture feels like Kaiser has left without us.

I'm grateful for all the adventures we shared and only wish we could have had more time together. These are just some of my favorite pictures. How could I possibly share all my thousands of pictures of Kaiser that I have marked with a ❤️ on my phone.

And the beautiful views on the way to Waterton. This image is the wallpaper on my phone. It used to be me taking a picture of my handsome devil, now it feels like he is looking beyond us.

What an absolutely beautiful memorial you have given Kaiser. Bravo.

@Kaiser2016
I’ve noted your writing skills before, you naturally gifted or a literary scholar? I bet both….

I suck at writing. It takes me a while to get in the right frame of mind and then it is work.
Wow, thanks for the compliment! ☺️ I was a latch key kid, so I read a lot and I think that helps. It doesn't always come easy though. With Kaiser, there are so many thoughts that are all over the place but then a recurring theme starts to take form. At that point, everything comes together in my head, then when I type, it flows out easily, sometimes even better than how it came together in my head. I guess that could be considered 'natural', but I'm definitely not a literary scholar. Plus the subject matter is beautiful Kaiser 🥰 I remember saying how lucky he was that his good looks could buy him so much forgiveness lol, but his soul was truly the most beautiful 🤎

I was about to same the same to @Kaiser2016

I struggle to write also, wish I had that talent. Hence all my errors on here 😬😆
Thanks for the compliment! 🙂

I agree; they become like us.
Yep, not just mind-readers, but fitting into the family like as if they were made just for us 🤎
