8 week old Doberman puppy measurements?

The weight rule seems to be everywhere, but those of you who have 8 week old dobes, had at one point, or will have soon... what are the other measurements? How tall are they? From rear to their front toes, how long are they laying down? Even if you have to guess, I'm curious. I've never seen an 8 week old doberman in person and any photo I've seen gives me no size reference. I've been told by some they're short, fat potatoes and by others that they are comparable to spiders on leg length to body ratio (I'm sure that was an exaggeration... right???)

Anyway, I do need this information. Are males the "short, fat potatoes" and the females are the "spiders"?

Never heard an 8 week Doberman puppy be called a spider. At 8 weeks they are typically all chubby Differing in size. Size means nothing at that age they will all mature and grow differently depending on food, environment, how they are worked ect as they mature.

As stated, size means nothing unless they are malnourished. This is a photo of my puppy & her litter-mates at 8 weeks & 3 days.

The reason I ask for a rough estimate of size is to make sure I get/have a big enough soft sided pet carrier for travel for one when I bring it home.

Ah, thus the size you're asking about. How long is your trip? We did talk about that in your Cabin Travel post - are you still flying or going to make a road trip out of it?

Yep thats the reason I am asking! I didn't know if it was okay to post there again after its been inactive for a bit. Still will have to air travel, but I may end up having to prepare for other arrangements. The pup I ended up with isn't even two weeks old yet and his weight is comparable to the pups in the litter that was born a week prior. He's big. Roughly 2.5lbs at a week old.

Too bad American Airlines doesn't have their aircraft specifications listed with under seat clearance like Delta does. If their planes are comparable in cabin, I have a lot more clearance than I thought but it doesn't mean much if I have no frame of reference of how big a typical 8 week doberman puppy is. I'd rather not find out last minute.

I'd definately ask the airline for permitted sizes and rules regarding etc. Then go from there. If it has to be under the seat for take off & landing they will have to give you those numbers.

18 x 11 x 11 but thats because it "fits most flights" but if AA's under seat clearance is comparable to Delta's, I know Delta can fit a bigger carrier than that on their Boeing 737-800's, which is what I'll be flying back on with AA.

I only have credits for AA though. Sad, because Delta is superior. AA customer service is of no help. They regurgitate info I can easily look up myself and never seem to know anything specific.

And AA also says on their website, literally, "carrier can be larger as long as its not excessively collapsed under the seat." Alas, here I am hoping I can find some frame of reference for how big 8 week old dobes actually are, since weight likely (hopefully) won't be an issue.

They're actually quite a bit smaller than photos make them look but I'm not sure if you could comfortably fit a carrier under the seat with an 8 week old Doberman. It seems the space under the seats keeps getting smaller every year when I fly. I know you have a little more room in an exit row but I'm not sure if they allow pets there.

We used an excellent transport guy and he brought her right to our doorstep for less than the cost of flying.

Your breeder should be able to help? I just don't know any references to inches long & tall at that age, just weights. Which, as mentioned, can be all over the board!

They don't allow pets in the exit rows I don't think. I know Alaska Airlines definitely doesn't. I will likely ask my breeder for weight/measurements at week 7 and if it looks like I can't get him on the plane, I will absolutely contact the Zoomies guy! Unfortunately in this case, since I am using left over airline credits to basically get a free flight out, Zoomies guy would have a hard time beating that deal. But I do appreciate the help and suggestion!
