Family Dog Charges, Chases Off Bear that was Heading Toward Child

The first approximately 3:30 of this video clip from Adam Carolla talks about dogs, and shows what is described in the title of this thread. They call it a Husky. I don't know if it may have been a Malamute. The dog performed very nicely! I assume it got a bite in on the hindquarters of the bear that quickly decided to flee. This is just awesome. Who knows if that bear was going to harm that child?

I'd have to see another angle on the bear. Almost looks like a lost juvenile, not an adult predating...but yeah. Malemute mix at least based on size is my general rescue owner/suburban dogpark dog guy guess.
Dog just achieved hero status.

Love Adam Corolla. He's considered by many as the inventor/first mover in podcasts, btw.

Dumb to have dog off leash.
Dumber to have dog off leash without a bulletproof recall.
Dumb to be hiking off leash in bear country.

I prefer to have my dogs off leash in bear country, they're safer that way, and the right dog can help. My dogs aren't stupid, they don't randomly chase bear. Coastal Brown Bear are the Apex predator here.

Well that was scary! Although the dog was very responsive to the owner. He didn't chase the bear and he came when called. He certainly looked too small to help out if that bear attacked. Obviously they were okay since they posted that video but I wondered how they got out of that situation. Like the girl was saying, he wants the trail! LOL that's terrifying. You wouldn't find me out hiking in Bear Country.
