Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

IMG_4940.webpThere are a couple great horned owls that hunt this little bit of urban forest where I take Bonnie out in the morning for sniffies and her morning ablutions while I have a cup of coffee.
Sometimes the crows will harrass them, but owls dont care...it doesnt end well for the crow that gets too close.

I was watering this hanging basket

the other day when I saw something inside. Don't ask me why but for some odd reason I thought it was a turtle! LOL yeah, a turtle. I'm thinking how the hell does a turtle get up in this hanging basket? I ran for my phone to take a picture and this is what it was.

Just a little tree frog. But he was so cute! He almost look like he was smiling. And he did not even move when I watered the plant. We're so dry out here I wonder if he was loving the shower!

Last week my friend was asking how wild turkeys drink since Harold has been using our bird bath as a drinking source. I took a little video for her and thought I might as well share it here too. FWIW the bird bath is close to 30" tall so it shows how big he is.

I was driving home the other day when I went around a corner where there was probably 15-20 turkey just walking down the middle of the street. Bringing up the rear was a huge Tom that was in no hurry to get any where. Apparently I didn't slow down fast enough and he definitely let me know I needed to slow down. Wish I had my camera ready for that look! 😂

Yesterday we had this odd colored junco hanging out on the deck. They usually don't have that much black on their head and the body color is usually more of a slate grey.

These coyotes are feeding on mexican palm fruit, which is dropping on the ground now.

They are about the size of a medium GSD.
Needless to say, Bonnie was back on leash, to be safe, once sighted.

These songdogs are human avoidant, were tritting off, and only turned head when I made smooching baby animal noises to call them in.

Anywhere hiking off leash I keep Bonnie close in sight on a good recall backed by ecollar.

Sorry for the fuzzy pic- screenshot from a video at extreme 15x zoom on iphone.

I found this dead rabbit here:

I can only guess someone I know got it. I didn't see it happen. But thinking back I seem to recall a 'scuffle' one dark morning taking the dogs out. Annie was running around instead of the usual 'browsing' and even with my flashlight I didn't see anything. No real marks on it so I'm assuming one good shake and it was gone.

I've heard this out in the woods and it will send chills down your spine.
Linx fighting.
