WAE is this Saturday. I spoke with the lady who is running it and she made me feel better lol, so helpful and nice!
Pepper goes at 1:50, hoping she does well, either way itāll be fun.
I donāt know how sheāll do around other dogs though. She usually doesnāt seem to mind and relaxes. Although, at the drive in last weekend, she kept trying to get this Pitt bulls attention. He was well trained and I guess they both decided to go in a down and look at one another and Pepper let out a high pitched squeak, which is her HI I WANT to PLAY! Haha

I think you both have fun and now that you had that conversation with the lady running it, you'll go in calmer, and that'll go right down the leash!
I watched it at the UDC nationals quite a few years ago. It's very much like ATT but geared toward a working dog for sure.
I'm sure she'll do fine and it will be a fun learning experience! Have you read through the instructions of how it plays out on DPCA website? There is no interaction with dogs AT ALL. I say that in all caps because with lots of dogs around, Nobody should approach you with a dog on leash at any event. Depending on the set=up (and weather) you'll probably leave her in the car while watching the others or if people are waiting their turn they have plenty of space between. This is just common curtesy and any dog event and I can't recall if you've been to any dog shows or events. So take this as a friendly tip, not a scolding!
IF someone walks towards you with a dog and Pepper gets at all bothered/staring/hackles, tell them right away that "this is all new to us and please don't approach us with your dog".
You do so much stuff with her I'm sure she won't be bothered. And when you first get there, leave her in the car until you take a look around, see where the potty area is and where you meet for the briefing before it starts and all that. They want you wearing a slip collar and leather collar with a heavy 6 foot leash. When I went half the people didn't have it and the judge ask if they could borrow mine to use for dogs that didn't have one, so if you don't have the equipment, ask the event secretary if it will be available there so you don't have to go buy stuff you won't ever use again!
Best of luck - just think of it as a literal walk in the park with lots going on!

Thank you! Yes, I read the instructions on The DPC website. She also went through it with me via telephone which was really helpful. I did ask if dogs can mingle and she said no not what happens. I just wanted to make sure so I knew what to do with Pepper.
I am going to bring her car crate too and keep her in my truck, like you said so I can go check it out alone.

Let Pepper out in the yard and I was with her she was acting frantic. Hackles up and sniffing non stop running the perimeter.
Then a dog comes into the yardā¦ she went full throttle barking and lunging at it. The dog was a lab seemed kind, but you never know, he didnāt get the cues we were giving him. I ran after it and it kept coming to Pepper she did not back down at all. I heard them growling so I got worried about biting and I donāt know who went crazier myself or Pepper!
We have workers here doing the kitchen so Iām sure they enjoyed that show lol. I think I blacked out chasing that damn dog
It kept coming back and Pepper preformed so well did not cower or back down. She held her ground and kept pushing it out of the yard.
The owner pulled up and got the dog and I had lured Pepper onto our fenced in porch. Not that it would contain her, she sneaks out the cat door typicallyā¦
The owner was very apologetic and said I saw you chasing my dog, good job. I canāt even imagine how crazed I looked running after that dog.
Well, anywho, my son said mom I think Pepper will pass her test lol. Big change from baby Pepper and the racoon. Sheās a big girl now.
No humans or dogs were harmed - thank goodness!
Downside to no fenceā¦

Itās really neat to see them figure out what theory perimeter is. Pepper will even claim her perimeter when we go on vacation and she will maintain it and patrol it. Yesterday when that dog came in, she didnāt even cross over her line and she was not wearing her electric fence collar either.

I heard about that too and there's no way I wouldn't try everything to get it away from my dog. I'm so glad we don't have stuff like that around here. We might have wolves and bears but it's not like they're out there lurking for their next meal.
Similar setup here, no fence enclosing the back yard. It really is neat to see them figure perimeter out. I don't cable mine but they wear a standard e-collar when they go outside, which of course I am always quicker with my voice than finding which remote and all, and they do a good job when I holler to stop or come back. Mine get troubled about people walking the sidewalk, especially if they have a dog. They make their presence known but have never made contact. My mailman has learned to love them, so they will go see him if they are out in the morning when he comes, and he pets them up a little but it's never aggressive, or even loud, with him.

Pepper didnāt pass which is fine! We will do another until she gets it. She scurried off on decoy threat number 5 then went back and scurried again. She was anxious being there, but did well and didnāt mind the other dogs.
Judge was incredibly helpful and kind claimed a lot to me regarding the test. The woman who ran the WAE was also incredibly kind and helpful. She actually lives in my state just a few hours away.
Interesting experience, interesting people. Apparently, Pepper is overweight by a few poundsā¦

Great job getting out there! The decoy threat will make or break a lot of them. She needs a fence between her and the threat to say, "hold me back" lol! Dobes are allowed to be dog reactive so it doesn't surprise me she put on a huge show for that dog earlier this week! How old is she again? Confidence can have a lot to do with it. Home turf helps too with the confidence so I'm sure as she gets older she'll be more sure of herself in other environments too the more experience she gets under her belt. You can re-test again in the future!
