When should i neuter?

i personal said i wont neuter Apollo under 18 month, but i will have it done next month, since he gets really pushy and bossy and its trying to be the boss over every male he meets or lamost every one and starts to be very interessted in the girls
we been watching him for awhile now and made the decision to let it get done now.
i wanted to wait, so he can get all his bodypotentional.
but on the end, you need to make the decision, when its the best time for you, but if i were you, i would wait longer

There are many opinions on exactly when to neuter. Lately there has been one spin that recommends not neutering until the dog is entirely mature (see Apolo's post) so that the dog will reach his full body potential.
Since I've seen a lot of dogs who were neutered at around 6 month who, at maturity, could not be distinguished from an intact male litter mate when it came to "full body potential" I tend to write that off as so much hog wash.
I show so my dogs are rarely neutered young and most, frankly, are not neutered at all. But I've got years of experience with intact male Dobes which makes it easier for me to deal with them than someone who has never had this experience.
For the average person I recommend pretty much what most vets recommend--somewhere around six months. The pro's on a neuter at that age are that the males haven't started to develop some of the less attractive male behaviors. It's much easier on the puppy being neutered at that age in terms of healing and recovery that as a mature dog.
For the record a good many of the recommendations on not doing early spay and neuters quote an article about the way a dog doesn't mature when neutered early. What you should know is that if you go back and read the original studies you'll find that the studies refer to pediatric neuters (those done prior to 12 weeks) and that the height difference that is cited is on average around 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch. You'll find that much difference in dogs from the same litter--neutered or not.
Talk to your own vet--but six months is the age that I would neuter if I was dealing with a dog who would never be shown in conformation and was intended to be a pet.
I had Buddy neutered last April when he was about 15 months old. I wanted to wait about a year and it just worked out well that he was just over that year mark and just getting into the season of LOVE--Spring! haha. I figured it was time before he started smelling love in the air!
It's a personal choice and one that you make like Apollo, watching for signs like she did like bullying. Neutering usually calms the beast.

It is your personal prefrence, I had Penny and Orion both speutered at 4 1/2 months and they have become wonderful dogs, now Phoebe and Phoenix are intact and have grown to their full potential, JMO. Good luck with whatever you decide 
We had Boris done at 7 months because of the breeders contract, but as stated above, I didn't notice a bit of problems with him maturing normally, so you really can avoid a lot of the behavior problems if you have it done before he's a year old.
We're going to have Della spayed in January of Feb. (11 or 12 months) since I wanted to wait for her first heat (because of an inverted vulva). She's in heat right now, so I'll be calling next month or so since it usually takes about 2 months to get an appointment with our vet.

I did a bunch of research on this subject and decided that I want to wait until Hans is between 12 and 18 months. My research showed good evidence that the risk of some cancers (such as bone cancer) can be reduced by neutering after sexual maturity. There are pros and cons on both sides. It's definitely a personal decision.
As of now (at the age of 9.75 months), Hans is not showing undesireable behavior. He's not shown any wild interest in the girls, nor has he become bossy. He's got no male dog friends though. I went to a friend's house Friday night and he had a Labrador in heat in his house. I left Hans in the truck because of that, but when I came back he showed no extra interest in sniffing me over.
The vast majority of sources will say that neutering around 6 months is best, but I feel that they are basing that conclusion more on behavior than health issues. They also tend to assume that a dog owner can't prevent unwanted litters and will thus contribute to the unwanted pet problem...
