Every year we put out this little Wren birdhouse and they are quickly in it building a nest!

Well this year a neighbor was building a bunch of these bird houses and he gave us one! I painted the roof White and trimmed it in blue hoping to keep it a little cooler inside. Even though it's under trees I worry about them being too hot inside of these things.

Well I put it out maybe a week ago and already somebody is building in it. I don't know if it's the same Wren that comes every year or what. And I haven't caught anyone in the other one yet. So if it's the same Wren maybe she sees the new house and decided to move! 😆

We had another big black visitor on our deck last night.

Hubby said he was surprised Elroy didn't hear it since he was out on the couch with me but the power had just gone out and the generator was running. In thinking about it I did hear something but I just assumed it was him getting up to use the bathroom and Elroy probably did too. We had a spare feeder on hand so the birds got their breakfast anyway.

Will you take the feeders down at dark-thirty so the bears don't keep at it?
Yes, the feeders and the trash. Hubby has been doing it every night but didn't last night since it was raining and he thought one night wouldn't hurt.

And the darn thing just had to bust through the gate instead of climbing over it...

Last night I came into the living room/kitchen from down the hall and a movement in the air caught my eye - my first thought was somehow a bird got in the house. In an instant I recognized it was a bat! After much excitement it landed on a window sill and I put a cloth over it. Tried to get a photo without letting it get away. Very mindful of rabies, but I captured it with the cloth over it and let it go outside. The dogs were nuts about it, but it flew up and away. I think somehow it got down the chimney between the old chimney for the original fireplace and the new woodstove insert. Needless to say, about the most excitement we've had in a long time.

Aww I love bats. I always feel bad when they hang at the top of the window outside and I close it on them when you can't see they're there.

I just got off my lawn mower where I ran into this guy while I was mowing the pasture!

I'm usually looking for snakes while I'm mowing because I know it can rustle up some that were possibly sleeping, hiding, whatever. And I just happen to see movement on the corner of my eye and he was running right alongside me. Fast! I grabbed my phone for a quick picture! He was trying to get out of my way and darted past the fence.

He was probably at least 3 ft long. Probably a bull snake but I didn't get a close look.

Thankfully they were behind us so Remy never saw them, if he did our walk would have turned into a run
:spit:

I was on the phone the other day and looked out the window when a bobcat walked right through the yard. I would have grabbed a camera but I didn't realize what it was until it was past and it didn't have a tail.

I keep forgetting to post about the spring birds being back! It's been a couple of weeks already but I've been seeing a lot of Grosbeaks, Baltimore Orioles, gold and red finch, and the Cat bird. And actually more Cardinals at my suet then all winter. Usually they're here in the winter too but they have really visited a lot this spring. And yesterday I saw my first blue jay at the suet. That's kind of rare. The woodpeckers are here all year. I'm waiting to see if I see a Tanager again. That was thrilling! They're usually a rare sight. And I've yet to see the Indigo Bunting but my friend down the road had one in her yard already. I'm sure they'll be here along with the bluebird. Always so pretty to see all the colors in the spring and summer. Just a couple of pictures through my kitchen window. Best I can do because as soon as I go closer to the side door or God forbid open it, they're gone!

Oh, and of course my little Wren is back and always so much fun to watch. And listen to! I've seen them going to both of my houses. I'm curious to know if it's the same one trying to choose or if we have two families starting.
