Remy’s Show Thread

Remy & I showed for the first time today! We just did a match to gain some experience before he starts officially showing in July. He won Best of Breed (over 1 other Dobe) and the working group! He was so well behaved at the show and I’m so proud of him. ❤️

Remy and I are the second group, armband #12.

Waiting to go back in for Best in Show.

In the breed ring. The free stack was not great but I’ll take the blame there since I got nervous 😅 I cut out the go around because he was pacing lol. I’ve been trying not to look at him during gaiting, but I’m so used to checking to see if he’s pacing so I looked a few times.
In for Best in Show! It was won by the Golden! They don’t award a reserve for the match.

Great day out and a good confidence boost!
That's awesome! :congrats:

You two looked great.
Super job! You two looked great!
You two look awesome! Congrats and good work - to you both 🙌🙌
Heck yeah!!! So proud of you both!! He handled it so well!
Thank you all! ❤️ I was a bit nervous but it felt nice to finally do a show with him! There is still a lot to learn and improve, but I feel like we are starting to make some good progress.

I was so proud for how well he did at the show. I wasn’t sure what to expect since he has never been in the show environment. We were there for about 3.5 hours. There were a lot more dogs than I expected in the match so it took about 1.5 hour to get through it all! He waited ringside calmly throughout the match. ☺️

Forgot to add this video. Nothing too interesting but it’s the only one I have with him stacked I think. He was a little too far stretched so I should have adjusted his rear legs. The angle also makes it look like he has no chest lol.

I was using a piece of chicken as bait and he stole it out of my hand before this. I was left with a super tiny piece of a treat to try and bait him with 😂.

Reviewing videos is the best teacher I have! Still, you did great! Had to giggle at the wiggle-wart closest to the camera though!
It’s definitely helpful! I’ve been trying to record most of our training sessions.
It takes a lot of guts to step into a ring so that itself is a big accomplishment!!! Congrats!!!!
Thank you! It’s definitely out of my comfort zone, but it’s something I really want to do!
I had to chuckle at that too. Remy was standing nicely like a statue and I don't think to fluff ball stood still once. LOL
It was standing still until the lady adjusted him/her, then it was ready to play! 😂

Yes, no offense some of the quality of dogs I've seen is quite questionable. I'm guessing it is a lot like UKC where yes, they judge by the same standard but the quality isn't there yet. I have seen some nicer dogs. I've also seen some not nice dogs finish in AKC and wonder wth the judge is thinking. Either way, it would be great for practice! You know I've raved about Remy enough but he should have no problems showing in UDC should the judge know the standard...
I’m going slightly off topic but it still relates to showing. Sometimes when I stack Remy he looks questionable and I think “yikes, should I really be showing him?” 😂 Then I get a really nice picture of him stacked and can’t stop looking at it. It seems like the more I touch him, the more I mess up the stack so I let him walk into it and fix what’s needed.

I saw something about a handling clinic at the show we went too. It was earlier in the day and the match was 30 mins after BIS, so I didn’t bother to attend. Turns out one of the handlers teaching was Diego Garcia so now I really wish I went lol. He also went BIS 3 days with the Dobe he was handling and RBIS the other day.

Anyways, if it doesn’t seem like I’ll be busy, I’ll definitely plan to attend the UDC show. I wish we had more UKC shows in the area so I can get some more practice in.

Omg... YES. :wideyed::rofl: ALWAYS take advantage of the free handling clinics!!! Even if you have to hang out all day at the show lol. Its a good idea to watch the breed ring and others showing anyways! But those free clinics have professional handlers volunteering their time, huge resource!

Yep! If you have a nice enough dog, they shouldn't need touched much! Less often is more. Means you'll be ready to show off that pretty neck and look at the judge sooner than everyone else, and sometimes that matters a bunch when the judge goes to point!

I will definitely go to any offered in the future! The shows in July seem pretty popular so I’m hoping there will be one at one of those.

I guess I also didn’t realize that it was professional handlers. Being that I’m so new, I’m sure I could learn a lot from just about anyone lol, but I would have loved to get advice from him.

Remy looked great!!! Nicely done! So great to see how they handle 3 or 4 hours at a show. And it helps them be better dogs in general.
Congrats, and love the pic's and videos!

Let us know how it goes!! Should be fun! Sorry for the slight derailment. 😅
No worries, it didn’t bother me at all! Plus, I sort of started it by asking if it would be okay to show a non working line dog there lol.
