WOW! I’m glad that’s over!
Grumble’s finally gone “out of season”
All three of the other dogs took a hammering, without “obvious” provocation---- she attacked each of them, once or twice this happened in my presence....
Had to use “superglue” on a few occasions to close open wounds---- Nothing requiring a vet, but none the less.
Even though I have no intention of breeding her, (She is not a registered dog, does not come from registered stock, was yard bred (NOT PUPPY-MILL) And I’m not convinced that sterilising her, ultimately, is the right thing to do.
Sterilising comes with its own set of problems.....
But, before I go on, I need to squish the yard-bred controversy, or this will get hi-jacked: -
A pup, from a registered breeder with papers will cost round 12 000 ZAR
A dog that costs that much has the highest probability of being homed in a good, home with an owner well educated in things dobie.
A yard-bred pup with no pedigree will cost up to 1000 ZAR, and has a good probability of landing up in bad circumstances, simply because of the low amount of money forked out
I know my own circumstances and believe that I am a knowledgeable, caring & will provide a good circumstances for ANY dog I own. Also that I have no future intentions of breeding.
So, given that I do know what to look for in a pup, know what to look for in the Sire & the Dam and if all bodes well, give a dog, that is already living, that has a high probability ending up in bad circumstances a chance to have a good life?
So why did I not take on a rescue? – I have young grandkids, and their parents did not want an adult dog with the young kids, they were however happy with a pup that grows up with them...
So that, I think, squishes the yard-bred / rescue debate, so back to sterilising....
So, I’m in 2 minds.... Not sterilising has it’s set of issues, Sterilising creates other potential issues.....
I’m happy with her disposition as she currently is, which is laconic / placid / cool /calm / ---- until we get on the man-work training field when she instantly morphs into a giant sized snarling biting piranha, (same as she did with them other three of my dogs........... Strange, she loves scruffy to bits, take any amount of dog backchat from her.... N-o-t...................... w-h-e-n..................... i-n..................s-e-a-s-o-n.....
