I heard alot of things about dobermans that were completely not true at least in the case of my dog. Hes addicted to playing fetch, a strong swimmer, loves to work in thunderstorms and fireworks, and the one thing I wasnt planning on or hoping for, frigid weather. Dude never wants to come in. It has been around 14 degrees in the afternoon and no sign for ware. I check his paws, no bleeding, not even too cold, nothing noticeable, maybe a little paw lifting. Hes not stuck in the garage, he can come in whenever he wants and the garage doors open cause I keep playing ball with him.20191111_221004.webp . I have to come in and warm up. Hes nuts.

Anyone else have dogs that were addicted to fetch and being outside no matter what? Any problems?

Our boy can't stand the cold, it's all we can do to get a walk in. He wears a coat while we walk, once back inside he gets in his kennel with his little heater blowing on him. It's so cold today we will probably walk around inside Lowe's today.

Mine seems to LOVE the cold as well, swimming is a no go... but the cold doesn't seem to effect him. Heck he even tries to take off his own coat once he gets warmed up. After the first snowfall when I open the door he hesitates a bit to go out, but then just doesnt seem to want to stop!

All of my dogs, including my elderly pit bull love playing in the snow. Of course she has a coat, and she gets chilly when it gets in the 40s. My Shepherd thrives the colder it gets. Brinks only gets cold when it’s really cold, like 20s and teens and below.

I wish I had a snuggling Doberman that would lay under a blanket, but the beast wants to go everywhere and see everything ALL THE TIME. As long as he keeps moving, his feet stay warm. In really cold weather, off leash running plus a jacket will keep him warm. @mshipway Kaiser also tries to take off his coat once he’s warm.

Oh yes. Extended retrieving sessions in the snow or cold– sticks or frisbees.

I do find that snow can get balled up inside the paws and cause bleeding. An old preventative for this is applying diaper rash cream (Is Desitin a brand? I got it at the dollar store) before a snowy outing. I've used it. Funny thing is, now that I have children, I don't use that stuff – never bought it for a baby.

As long as they're active, they thrive in cold weather. We do our nightly walks even in sub zero temps. Of course, if they're not being active outdoors, they don't do well in cold temps.

Addicted to fetch!
We have the opposite weather though.
Keeping them from overheating is the goal. At least he likes to play with the water from the sprinklers.
Sorta solves two things at once.
He gets exercise running around biting all the water and it cools him off. :)

He flat won’t wear a jacket so it’s a good thing it doesn’t get cold here:D

My GiGi is a fetching maniac at 7 months! If she can run and get ahead of the ball and it bounces she can leap up and catch it in mid air!! Sometimes she forgets to drop the first one to go and get the second one but she is so smart that when she brings one back I can tell her to go get the other one and she runs back out and gets it. Amazing!! It’s funny though watching her trying to figure out which one to bring back first!
