Brown doberman with black spots

We are located in Kenya, dobermans are very rare here and no breeders. We recently got some doberman puppies from Uganda - we do not have the contact to the real breeder. One of the puppies is brown with spots of black fur. Skin and everything appears normal but the fur has a black color, age about 5 months. We have asked a reputable vet here but did not get a conclusive answer. Has anyone seen similar and could lead us what this could be or what we can check for with the vet?
Thanks, Iris

Can you post a picture of her full body? She looks like she has Catahoula Cur (Louisiana Leopard dog) in her or Heeler.

From what I can see looks there is come Catahoula Leapard Dog in the pup. Other some breed that has a merle coat.

I would do a embark test for dna but I don’t believe your pup is a pure Doberman. Definitely has something else in her.

Yes, I wouldn't know how available tests would be in Kenya either. It looks on surface like a mix but pictures of your pup would help. And by the way welcome from Ohio:dc: Probably asking vet about mix would help also if you want to know. If they are healthy that is main concern. Did breeder sell them as full blood dobermans? Do you have papers?

Our next door neighbor has a Catahoula Cur. Beautiful dog and her coat is very soft- very protective.

What color is the pup suppose to be? Hard to tell from that picture. Kind of looks red, but kind of looks blue. What color is the nose?

I read online that the coat might be shedding into her mature coat. She's growing out of her puppy fur.

... here are some more pics, we actually think that the black spots get bigger ...

as far as i understand we would need a pure doberman to "compare" or how does it usually work? Not sure if we can do it here locally...might have to be send to south africa

... could be ... we actually feel the dark spots get bigger, but not 100% sure, we might have to wait... her siblings are all in color though

It's so hard to tell if the pup is really a purebred Doberman or not. Maybe there is some remote possibility that the pup has a mutation that results in a merle looking coat.
