skin sensitivity

hello I’m new to Doberman chat and I was hoping to gather some insight on skin sensitivity. My Doberman is a 18 months old and his coat is pretty good but it’s slightly thin under his neck and on the lower part of his chest. I have kicked rocks on grainfree vs limited grain and the idea of fish oil and vitamin E I’ve have tried a few different kibbles mainly pro plan sport, 4health performance and victor hi pro plus.

Chest hair is normally thin. My twins have thin hair on their necks and I think the main reason is their collars rub it.

I feed 4Health Performance, my Ragnar loves it.

I notice he gets bump like acne sometimes around the chest/neck area but I think as Bri stated, it’s from his collars/harness.

Awesome thanks for the input he is my first Doberman. I’m still learning the breed I was raised with border collies and heelers. The breed is awesome smart, loyal, protective, and alert I like them a whole lot .

Welcome from Australia! I also have had heelers, kelpies and collie crosses. They are super smart, super energetic and quick to learn. All traits that a Doberman share, but they are as different as chalk and cheese to train I very quickly found out. I got an education along the way and am a convert. They do have little hair on their underparts and you can see their skin if they raise their hackles, and agree that the thin hair under the neck is probably due to collar rub.

Pictures would be immensely helpful.

But likely, yes, probably just normal. Shorter haired breeds tend to be "thin" in some areas and things like collars can exacerbate it. If possible, I try to keep collars off indoors.

Yep, looks good!
In my limited experience the Dobe coat varies a bit from dog to dog and among dilutions.
Daisy had a much thinner yet more coarse coat being a red girl than Rocky the black

And Daisy’s coat was thicker and softer than Dolly the blue girl I knew as a teen.

My girls hair is thin on her chest & neck, too. Nothing to worry about!

I appreciate the input and it makes a little more at ease. He’s my first Doberman so I’m learning about there needs that vary compared other dogs I’ve had. And he’s has done really well with the 4health and diamond naturals athlete which are almost identical foods both made by diamond.
