Ragnar coming home

i felt like I had plateaued in my ability to train from the internet and could not find time to meet an instructor weekly with three girls in weekly soccer practice. Things were kinda getting tense at home with the wife so I bit the bullet and sent Ragnar for two weeks to an Offleash board and train program.

The instructor said Ragnar has done well and I will meet him Saturday morn to pick him up.

The trainer will spend two hours with me to go over some key points and I will continue on with new knowledge from there.

I know that I will not get a robot back but I am hopeful some headway has been made and some core obedience has been established.

It has been very very quiet and boring in the house and I have to say that I am very excited to get him back.

Sorry if I'm behind but was he having behavior issues or excess energy or what were the concerns?

I'm eager to hear how the training went for him and how it translates to home. And yes, you will NOT get a robot back because it's still YOU and your family reinforcing what he's learned. Does your wife know that ;)

These pooches are definitely a lot of work. We don't have kids so I can basically do whatever I want whenever with Rubie but when I travel, I know my BF can get overwhelmed with her in certain aspects.

I work with off leash on my males bite work and the ppd program and can say I’m pleased with the style they use not sure if it’s the same system there but if so I think you’ll love the results

No, no. No behavioral or major issues. More or less of me feeling like I have plateaued and did not want to lose a key developmental period of learning. I could be wrong with that thought process but I did not want to lose the time if the case.

I knew my girls would be practicing and playing a lot but did not plan on them being accepted in a league higher than state league. I am in charge of all soccer so this added to the chaos of my schedule and my inadequacy to train with him. He was starting to pull on the leash and get rambunctious when around other dogs, etc... I did not feel he was ready for soccer weekends at the fields and neglecting him this way, to me, is a disservice to him.

I had him to a point in which he knew commands but was not consistent when distracted. Am I inpatient and expecting too much too soon? Probably so but I just did not feel like I was doing what needed to be done.

To be honest, I knew it was not going to be as easy as training a lab but I really did not expect the endless energy and high drive that he has. If I am saying that, you can only imagine what my wife is saying.....lol.

I gotcha, now! Eager to hear how he's done and what the trainer tells you!!

Truly, I wanted to be able to lay full claim to being the one that trained Ragnar. To have someone see his abilities and then ask me, “did you train him or somebody else did?”.....

I guess at that point, I will redirect their attention and say, “nope, didn’t train him by myself but damn.....look at his ears. That right there took ALOT of time, patience and care!!!”

LOL.....

We've all had help in one way or another :thumbsup2:

Not long now till you pick him up, @Ddski5! I would imagine it’s a HUGE decision to make, but you do what feels right for Ragner and your family. I agree with Genny, two weeks is more like a holiday :thumbsup2: Effective training cannot be rushed. It takes months, not days to fully train him.

He wasn’t ready for the soccer fields, your time would of been consumed by the girls, they need you, too. So you did the responsible thing. I fully understand!

Btw, congratulations with the girls and their promotion in the league, that’s awesome! :goodjob:

You can still claim training rights! The trainer is simply refining the training you have done and most trainers actually train the owners to train their dogs, so that title is yours!!
