Calm Doberman? Only if they are breeding away from proper temperament.

I agree, someone totally hoodwinked me with Bogie. Chill, relaxed, not in their vocabulary.Soon as you find a calm laxed dobie let me know I want one as wellor am I the only one who got tricked into my nightmare

You cannot sneak away from a Doberman. I have tried, they wake up just when you start to even think about trying to sneak away.@Tropicalbri's dont try to sneak to the bathroom late at night (and yes I really try) duke catches me at the door like “oh you ready”

I think it's about the opposite for our two, aside from the female being smaller. She is perfectly happy to sleep a good share of the day and so does our male but he has to have his eye on me all the time. That said, after I've been gone for job training for a few months, Della (our female) has been stuck to my side nearly nonstop since I finally got home, which is highly unusual.I'e been reading numerous threads on Female v Male. Extremly tough. I hear females are smaller but can be more manipulative and slightly more intelligent and thus get bored more easily. Males are bigger but more independent, calmer and chilled.
Calm Doberman?
....I've been pushed, pulled, stepped on, whined at and barked at...had to go out in

LOL, well Della is 9 and Albert is almost 7 so they're pretty good in the house, even though their favorite thing to do is make sure they knock the blanket off the couch.@JanS you speak of the good times, I love sleep times, but what about when the dream ends and they are awake, do you have camp calm or camp chaos as our good friend @GOD'S GRACE calls it![]()
When they go out they burn off lots of energy so they stay pretty satisfied.
not so lucky here

I think public perception of the breed is causing me unconscious bias. I mean I am now thinking is this Dog too much for us to handle.
Thank you for this. Very informative
Here comes the meanie! Are Doberman puppies much harder work than raising any other puppy say like a Labrador?

Hands down the worst feature of this dog. I don't know why this isn't bred out. For such a fearsome looking beast, they cry like bitches. 'Fortunately' they only do this in the privacy of their own homes so as not to lose their mystique
there are so many reasons people are so passionate about Dobes. They easily steal your heart and will make it ache when they're sick, and it will break when they pass. Here comes the meanie!
