Soon to be new Doberman Owner :)

Amazing replies all. Thank you soo much.

Still researching breeders in the UK. Anyone have experience with Aritaur, Amazon, Jojavik, Supeta, Grafmax etc? These names keep coming up when researching and also notice they show their dogs.

Ideally I am looking for a breeder that also has the experience raising puppies for the home as opposed for show. i.e introducing them to other animals, sounds, people, kids, smells etc

This is where I feel a home breeder may be better but then I dont know if they do proper health checks.

Cant thank you all enough.

The breeders that show their dogs ARE the breeders you want to use for a pet. All reputable breeders have to show that the dog can work. It's part of proving their sound temperament. Such a breeder will also NOT place a show quality dog into a home that is looking for a pet, so you shouldn't need to worry about that.

Check out Viemar Dobermanns in the UK (I’ll PM you contact details of the breeder)

Recent litter:
10 puppies all black/rust (7 girls 3 boys) born 28/01/2018

Sire : Supeta's pandemonium at korifey
Dam : Viemar eye candy

I’m not connected to Viemar Dobermanns but I’ve contacted Julie a few times in the past. Max (Viemarangelrock) was one of hers. Unfortunately, we found him in the kennels at 7 months old through no fault of his own. He lived a long healthy life. A super boy with an outstanding temperament.

Max AKA Viemarangelrock...

Wow. How beautiful is Max. Thank you for the PM. Right now we are looking for a puppy after May. We currently have a holiday already booked.

After extensive reading and research my family do feel we will be able to live with a doberman. Physical exercise will not be a problem. We will look at ways to mentally excercise the dog.
Are teaching command's and dog food game boards enough for that.

Will defo look into agility and read up on IPO if these are near me.

Everyones advice has been so appreciated.
Will keep you updated on progress

Just a small update the pups are born and I will go and see them in a about 3-4 weeks.

A mix of boys and girls.

When going to see the puppies, what should i be looking for? Ideally im looking for a low/medium energy dog that is stable and confident.

Any pointers/tips?

I also installwd the Doberman chat app. However every time I try to use it, I am presented with no licence. How do I get one?

Thank you

How exciting for you! Your breeder should pick the pup best suited for your needs so if you communicate what you're looking for they'll generally pick out the best one for you when they're old enough to evaluate.

There was a complication with the app so it's no longer available. We'd like to have another one developed some day but your phones regular browser works just as well in the mean time.

Awesome!

Be 100% open and honest with your potential breeder. A good ethical breeder is thorough, I would be wary of any breeder who was not picky on matching pup personalities with suitable homes. Trust their judgement.

Alot of people are telling me that a doberman puppy is really hard work. You need to be really prepared etc. Is this just for Doberman puppies or any breeds puppy?

Also when I got a Staffordshire bull terrier in the past the amount of people that informed me thats dangerous breed was very high. When I mention Doberman every single person has a look like they just swallowed a lemon. They seem to be getting a lot more stick than my beloved staffy.

Now can I genuinely change their minds about the Doberman like my previous dog or are Dobermans genuinely different. I have heard many People say "There are Dogs, and then there are Dobermans"

I used to think Dobermans were like the Resident Evil zombie dogs :D They're nearly always portrayed in popular culture as vicious dogs so people buy into the stereotype. I do it myself with Pitbulls. If I see one, I'll cross the street. I've got a bias against them even though many people have perfectly good ones. It all comes down to the owner. There will always be someone that doesn't understand why you got this or that breed of dog.

So, the puppies, are they American or Euro? If you're not sure yet, don't visit. They're just too cute to resist!

"There are Dogs, and then there are Dobermans"

I've had many purebred dogs, and Dobes are in a class all by themselves...Yes they require more attention including training, Vet care, food, play, love and all the other things they do...That being said, I will never have any other breed moving forward...they had me at hello.

The breed fits my life style, kind of like my Harley, my gun collection and my love of freedom...
Dobes trump all other Breeds.

Im based in the UK. The puppies from what I understand will be built like Euro Dobermans but with a softer less working line temperament.
Does that make them a American/Euro cross :)
It's impossible to tell unless you have a pedigree of the parents.

Had many different breeds and always wanted a Doberman. Finally got in the right situation and found a Doberman puppy.

A Doberman is very different for me because all my other dogs were outside dogs. Get tired of them or had enough, put’em in the back yard and take a break. Can’t do that with an inside Doberman. Sure, you can put him in a crate but it is not a cure all.

I find that having a Doberman is just like having a baby in the house. Anytime he is out of crate, always have to have eyes on him.

Yes, it gets tiring and I’ve had many WTF moments- as I did many times when my kids were younger. But when I see him sitting or stand posing with the sun is shining on him??? I think, Damn that’s a beautiful Doberman and all my pain goes away! Lol...

For me, the first time Doberman owner? Yes, I find it difficult, but I am staying true to my goal and doing everything I can to have that dream Doberman.

Only have one life, right?? Live it.

Undeniably a physically attractive breed. They are like the Marilyn Monroe of dogs. It's the most frequent comment Kaiser gets: What a beautiful dog; What a handsome fella. When I think about other breeds, they are not really attractive the same way. They may be cute, adorable, loveable, or huggable, like all puppies, but never handsome and debonaire like the Dobermanns. And, add to that, capable.

Dobermans are REGAL....
re·gal
ˈrēɡəl/
adjective
  1. of, resembling, or fit for a monarch, especially in being magnificent or dignified.
    "regal authority"
    synonyms: royal, kingly, queenly, princely
    "his regal forebears"
I love going to the park and as we pass by other dog walkers, many comment what a great looking "dog", I correct them and let them know she's not a dog, she's a Doberman.... I wonder if they get jealous?...who CARES!

Thank you all for your advice and input so far.

Im researching food amd feel thst dry would be more convenient. I know raw is best but dont have a big enough freezer and would hate to have forgotten to thaw and ny doggie hungry.

My last dog was on James Wellbeloved. She never had any real issues on it.

Wondering if this is still a good dry food or would moving over to Acana be better.

I heard of Orjen but heard as my dog is not working, the extra protein not required.

Thanks

You are in the UK so have a look at All About Dog Food.co.uk
It’s a great directory!

We feed Eden 80/20.

You can search up James Wellbeloved. Have a read for yourself

“So,what we're really looking at is a food with over 40% starchy ingredients.”

You’re very welcome. James Wellbeloved is from one of the ‘big four’ - Mars. Ugh! Producers of: Pedigree, Cesar, Chappi, Frolic, Pal, Nutro, Greenies & Royal Canin. All I dislike Lol.

The corporations have taken a large bite of the pet shop and veterinary market. 9 out of 10 vets now recommend foods from one of the big four (others being Nestle, Proctor & Gamble & Colgate-Palmolive)

One look through the ingredients lists of the UK's two biggest dog food brands, Pedigree and Bakers, clearly shows that marketing is a lot more important to a brand's success than the quality of the products.

Big companies hood wink you to believe they only use the best.
