Need input on food change

Most dogs LOVE hoof clippings. I haven't yet met a dog that wouldn't make off with the bits first chance they got.

Nero is doing well on Victor. Poops are firm. Coat is shiny. He has a lot of dandruff still which the vet has declared to be allergies.

Well while cleaning poop tonight (I lucked out with that job hu? ;) lol) Congo had 3 piles that actually held their shape!! One I watched him make so it was fresh but smelly, well it's poop, but this was unusually smelly...

That said, I've been mixing their Purina smart one? Smart blend? Idk what it is, with the diamond to get me to my first payday tomorrow. I don't want to bounce him back and forth, but I don't want to stay on that food. It just seems like junk, same price as diamond naturals but ingredients don't seem as good.

Is it possible he does better on a change in his diet? It seemed like when I switched to diamond he did better, then when I switched to maintenance he did better (for a day or two) now that I'm about 75% Purina he seems to be firming up... Or is there some other correlation?

I feed 4c each at night. They don't scarf it all down usually they have some left over the next morning and it's gone by time I'm home from work sometimes they do just wolf it down. I have never tried to control their eating outside of aggression/they have to eat in their own covered crate/no growling, etc.

If it hasn't been mentioned some pumpkin can help firm up the stools. Just don't overdo it or it'll go the other way;)

when I trimmed the horses hooves he would snarf that up before I could stop him. Those trimming stink beyond belief.

I am out there with my farrier when he trims my horses and I am sweeping up after each hoof! I let Buddy have some years ago and he was up all night barfing!! Never again!! Maybe he had too much, IDK, but now I don't allow him any! And I throw it in a bag that gets thrown away so I know he can't get it. (empty grain bag. Doesn't everyone with horses use those? ;) )

As for horse poop, mine have gotten better about it. I've corrected them for years on it! They still will sneak some but they are rarely out of my sight so I'm always on top of it. Not only is it gross, but I've always wonder if it does harm? Then again, EVERYone I know with dogs and horses has the same thing and they all seem fine. IDK. I know the attraction is probably the grain and grass in it. Hell, my dogs eat grass like its candy. I guess the poop is just another 'run through'. :D

Definitely. Ours mostly get used for baling twine since it's handy and in the same spot.
