I fear I'm about to lose my puppy.

So let me start out with some background of my past few days. Rico one day was acting very mopey and wanted lots of love. The next day continuous uncontrollable vomiting the day after that the same with the vomiting. The vet gave me advice Gave me advice on what to feed him and what to do for him. Today, I said enough was enough and had my husband take him to the ER vet. After spending my entire savings they tell me he has blockage and to come back in 6 hours for more X-rays. They gave him fluids directly into his back and send him on his way. Just an hour ago he vomited so much I'm not even sure how he could've had that in him. It was everywhere and it smelled horrible like a rotten eggs. My husband called the vet told him to come in immediately back to the ER. I'm sitting at home now panicked that I'm about to lose the best dog I've ever had and I didn't even get enough time to be with him. That tells me it's $2000 minimum for the surgery if he needs it. If I had it I give them anything, but I spent almost that much on trying to figure out what's wrong with him. Has anyone ever had this happen? What did they do to him if I can for the surgery? Put him down? I've tried calling rescues already. I'd be more than willing to sign him over to any rescue if they could save his life. He's a great dog comes from a loving breeder. I need option so I can't let him go down like this.

Oh no, I'm so very sorry to hear this! :( He definitely needs the surgery immediately and I would ask the vet if you can work out some sort of payment plan. Time is of the essence here or you will lose him.
I can't believe the first vet told you to come back later. :(

Agreed! Time is of the essence, when it comes to vomiting, especially that much, I cant believe ANYONE told you to wait for anything! Xrays should have been done immediately! Definitely ask if they offer payment options, like care credit. Reach out to the breeder, reach out to family and friends see if anyone can help you out in any way. I'm not surw what they would do if you cant affoed the surgery- ethically they really can't (shouldn't anyway) let him suffer and pass "naturally" without intervention, but even putting him down they'll charge you something. I hate how vets work nowadays and want the money before helping a well loved pet.

I am so sorry as well...Do you have credit card perhaps at least that allows you to make payments..I know it's a lot of money but it is perhaps a way...How old is he? A young dog would be worth the surgery if you feel the outcome would be good.. Bottom line you don't want the poor guy to suffer. Praying for you.

Best news. After the second veterinary appointment with Rico the vet looked my husband in the eye and said you need to come up with the money for the surgery or you're going to have to put him down. Cold and heartless. Not our regular vet. He's the the emergency vet. My husband couldn't bring himself to sign the paperwork to put Rico down. He said he would figure something out. I sent an email to the breeder. I sent a message to our dog trainer. We left a message with our mortgage holder. We were grasping at straws's for anything. I decided to make a call to care credit to see if I can get a credit increase. My husband pulled up in the driveway back from the vet for the second time. He rolled down the window giving me this look like why are you so happy our dogs about to die. I blurted out in excitement that care credit gave us the increase. Enough to pay for the surgery twice. He looked at me and said I'm leaving now, LOL. He went back to the vet. Rico will now be getting the treatment that he needed. So now all he's got to do is make it through the surgery and he'll be OK, again. Thank goodness. He was to good a dog and to young to die. Everything's gonna be ok.

Best news I heard all day. So happy for you and family.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

By the way, one of our moderators here has an ordinary stocking that became a several thousand dollar stocking. The eater of said stocking is still a trouble maker today, after what I suspect will be a similar surgical procedure.
Positive thoughts sent.!

Dang, I was scared when I started reading this, and I have chills and tears now!! I am SO happy you were able to figure out a way to swing the surgery! Prayers/positive thoughts for a quick and full recovery for Rico!

I'm curious to find out what it was but he ate. I'm thinking a baby sock or a baby wipe. We've got a couple babies running around here LOL. I can't wait to have them back home. They said to come pick him up at 7 AM. I've never been so happy to spend that much money in my life Haha. I've also decided to look into pet insurance. My breeder did tell me that Doberman's are like Billy goats with pointy ears. Who knew she was so serious.

What great news!! I am so relieved for you!! I have been there my friend!! Our Bull Terrorist "Prudence" went through two exploratories/gastrotomy/ enterotomies within 5 weeks of each other... a week before i had my first kid and then again 5 weeks later!
Good luck and we are all pulling for you and Rico!!

Glad he is ok. I have had two dogs with foreign body surgeries now and we are super diligent. It just happens. I now have a $3200 sock. And my girl is still with us :)

Now that he has had a foreign body surgery it is considered a pre-existing condition and will never be covered by any pet insurance.

It sounds like you might have to "dobify" the house (i.e. keep foreign "edible" objects out of the reach of all the pets). Having seen shows like "The Vet Life" and watching what animals will eat, it's the same thing as kid-proofing it (keeping chemical cleaners, etc. on high shelves, putting covers on the electrical outlets), etc. etc....
