The counter surfing Doberman!!

Speaking of PETA, they bought all the doe tags in our county this year.
Wow that's the first time I've heard of them doing that, but it doesn't surprise me. Around here it's by lottery so they wouldn't be able to do that.

I'm not sure how they do it here?
Pretty sure Az has a lottery for elk and other larger animals, not sure on deer though.

Some years they have it if the deer aren't abundant, other years you can just buy one if the population is high and some years they don't give any out if they had a bad winter the year before. That all goes by different zones within the state too.

Oh another great idea on their part. Buy up all the tags so the deer can't be shot. Much better idea to let them overpopulate and then starve to death. :banghead:
The deer around here are worse than rabbits I swear. In some areas they bring in sharp shooters to keep the population under control. The meat is processed and donated to soup kitchens to feed the hungry.

And its not like like they're scarce here this year either. I drove through the park a few weeks back, and no lie, in a 3 mile stretch of road counted 21 deer. And that's just the ones that were close enough to the road to be seen after dark.

Meanwhile I get all giddy seeing four deer while hike lol

Our deer are a kin to Lite Deer, by Miller.
Great Dane size.

On a similar note, after seeing that cat posted (I reposted it here in the critter thread) you might consider carrying a can of bear spray.

Where there are deer there are predators that eat deer;)

Hahahaha gel you're funny :) the does I saw weren't little lol and alright, alright I'll carry some spray lol I guess is shouldn't be so naive :/ my bad. I actually started looking into stun guns

Don't worry Gel :) I'm hyper vigilant :) I grew up as a desert girl. Try spotting a rattlesnake in the bush :) I stay very safe I promise :) I also old school hansel and gretal my trails with ripped wash cloths :) can't rely on gps imo :) I know I'm not invincible ;)

Cats! Almost seem to be worse, don't they?? Hard to train because they are so gosh darned determined.
All my animals have learned they aren't allowed to put their paws in the kitchen so they stay out. Now it is so precious to watch them all sitting at the edge where the carpet stops and the tile begins, with big watery, bubbly eyes of begging, lol.:cat::cat::dog2::dog2:
I used a sprinkling of flour on the counter tops to stop the cat and it worked after just one time. I could see she only took a couple steps before jumping off. Years later Kaiser arrived and couldn't be kept out of the kitchen, so the cat started coming through it too! We now have Kaiser "trained" with mats outside the kitchen entry. But he occasionally moves the mat further in. So technically he can't be reprimanded, and I have to push that mat back into place! Such sneaks!

The other thing this reminds me of is – regarding food bags – how I had taught Magnum to "point" to what he wanted. That meant place your paw on what you want. It's actually a very useful thing to teach your dog! I mean, we all wonder with dogs, as with babies, what do you need?

This is why I have not taught any of my subsequent Dobes to "point."
Love it! I kinda did this with the cat. I open my hands and ask her "what is it" and she takes us to the thing. She has advanced this herself by using her nose to knock at the particular food jar (treats or kibble). Her food jars are so tiny compared to Kaiser's that she just taps on them. She only knocks them over when we have missed a feeding and is annoyed with us :woot2:

Wow I wonder why that would be? Of course we don't have cats so I don't know that much about them either.

I was just thinking about the counter surfing thing last weekend when hubby left 2 packages of bacon hanging over the edge of one while he was frying eggs. Thankfully our dogs leave stuff alone but I could see many of them having a feast with that.

I think it is because cats are clean freaks and the flour will have made her paws slippery and impact her jumping ability. Especially when she jumped off the counter top and onto the hardwood floors. Her grip was surely compromised. Flour on hardwood is sooo slippery. And I'm sure she just really didn't like having to lick the flour off her paws either.

Buddy is like that too. Never was a counter surfer! The other day I left a cooked chicken on the counter and walked to the other side of the house. When I remembered that I left it, I hurried back, only because if the one time he decided to take it, it would probably prove fatal!! All those bones! :wideyed: But, of course, it was never touched. I don't take chances like that and if something is left out, its on our island, pushed back off the edge. Perhaps close enough for some counter surfers! But in 9 years he has never lifted his feet off the ground. Heck, I even have a bag of treats right on the kitchen table 24/7. Its just handy for rewards and its never been touched. I never even gave that one much thought.
