Have I mentioned that I hate everyone that has a decent camera? My iphone camera even pooped out on me! Love the pix of the birds

had one little comment on the feeders: I just saw a video on FB that someone lubed up the poles that house the feeders so the squirrels can't climb up it, let me see if I can find the video it's kind of funny actually.

LOL, I tried this on our feeder pole but the little buggers (red squirrels) would go and get their feet pitched up in the trees so they were sticky, then climbed right up. Slinkies are quite amusing too.

Doesn't anyone else have pics of their winter birds?

I've got some of some hawks recently but it's been a royal pain that my SD drive on my desktop stopped working! I have to load them on my laptop, then a thumb drive, and then my desktop, Then resize them to get them here. I'll get some soon! I was very excited about the hawk! I got a few pretty good ones with my little ole camera.

Do you have the transfer cable that came with the camera? The CF card reader won't work for our 5D so I just plug it in with the cable and transfer them just like you would with the card.

You know, I did for my last camera and I used it all the time. I never took the card itself out. Then I got a new camera and didn't get the cable. I'm probably gonna have to get one and soon. Drives me nuts not being able to see my pics quickly and easily. I can't believe that drive broke! Bringing my puter in to someone is daunting.

Okay, here's the hawk that I caught on January 27, 2015.

He landed in a dead tree near the house. I think he's smiling for the camera!


Then he got camera shy! Check out those colors! And those claws! Awesome!


Blurry, darn it!


He flew around for a bit....

Then he landed on a tree all the way at the back of the property. Both my husband and I were saying that we couldn't believe he didn't bend the branch!

Very cool MB! We don't see as many hawks here in the winter, aside from Goshawks but I love to see them in the spring and summer.

I see you have the white breasted Nuthatches there. We get both but they say you usually don't see both and we did for a few years, but now it's mostly the rose breasted ones we're getting. They're all adorable though.

They've been around a lot lately! Just yesterday one flew overhead as we were outside. I just think they are majestic! I get soooo excited when I see one! lol

Do you remember the video of the owl landing? It was slo mo and coming right to the camera. Oh, it was so cooooool!! Well, one day recently I was standing in our sun room looking out the window and here is a hawk, down low (about window level!) and coming right at me!! All I did was stand there like this.... It was so beautiful and as it flew over it was all white underneath. It was so close to me. Like that day I saw the Bald Eagle! There's just something about them that makes my heart swell!!

Our sun room is three sided with windows on all three sides and sometimes sitting here I will see a large shadow cross the room! LOL I run to look and its either a hawk or turkey vulture. As I'm typing this (yesterday) I'm seeing something flying back and forth and I finally had to get up to look! Because I had a hunch I knew what it was! And I was right! I had put some bread out on the frozen bird bath (so the dogs don't get it! ) and Blue Jays were running back and forth from the bird bath to the woods on the other side of the house (where I was on my laptop in the sun room) They had the bread gone in no time.

The color is a little washed out because I took it into the afternoon sun. I know these guys can be territorial and nasty sometime, but they are such a beautiful color. When taken in a better light.

I'm glad those obnoxious Blue Jays leave here and go to your house in the winter. LOL I agree that they're pretty but they're one of my most disliked birds because they're so nasty.

What are the birds in the 3rd to the last and last pic? Those are some that we never see around here, spring or summer.

I know you don't like those! LOL They are usually not by my feeders that much. They stay on the wooded side. Unless they see something yummy and then it's party time and no one else is invited. At least not that close.

The one on the right is the junco. I posted him above in another pic. They were funny with all that seed too. One was just a little snot, keeping everyone off the bath! It was pretty funny because he was sooooo fast, chasing the others off. I got a video that I will try and load tomorrow. The other one looks like a sparrow.

Ugh, they're constantly at our feeder screeching and gulping down food when they're here. I wish we were that lucky.

I did think it looked like a Grosbeak of some sort, but it's not one we've ever seen here.

That's what I was thinking. The first time I actually saw one of these was a few years back in KY. I thought they were so pretty!! Then I finally caught a few here but not as frequent. This guy is the first time in months that I've seen one.

I think that other bird you are wondering about is just a house sparrow. We have tons of them here.

A couple from yesterday.

I caught a Nuthatch flying in to the feeder. Boy they can look big when they're spread out.


A Redpoll. It's nice to see so many again since they were on the decline from some sort of disease.


A little spat at the feeder. LOL
