Whining is the current theme song of my life

Our daughter has a doberkid who is a whiner......and of all things....reggae music stops it, he gets honed in on the speakers and just listens.........BUT....she said that music in the background for long periods of time make HER whine:tongueout: Her husband has joked about fashioning a pair of "doggy head phone" for when B-boy starts the whine song.

Im dying at the reggae music bit!
Mine can’t seem to stand awkward silences, so he fills it with the song if his brethren. Only music that ever stopped him in his tracks was the Full House theme song. He was so utterly confused. First head tilt we ever got from him.

I tune out the birds screaming and chatting
:pullhair: If its anything like my neighbors Cockatoos. :complain: Its a horrid sound that will drive you insane!! How do you ignore that!? Dear God, you can't hear yourself think! :machinegun:

Buddy will whine once in a while but I put a stop to it real quick! :tap: Drives me crazy!

@MyBuddy after decades of dealing with it from my birds as well as working as a tech with the zoo vets, you learn to tune out all the different screeches from birds, monkeys, and the other exotics. Now the constant barking of boarding dogs I tune out but if its a whining dog, it’s a high pitch that really sets my teeth on edge. When we dealt with pigs I had to wear ear plugs and ear phones to mute their shrill screams. Pig squeals are loud.

Try 20 odd wild ones in the gumtrees at dawn, all tearing apart the leaves, branches and blossoms.......and SCREECHING!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: :machinegun:
Mine do that early morning and evening nesting screeches. I cover their cages and they will be quiet, unless something scares them.

So is my neighbors bird!! Its piercing! In the summer, once in a while we will hear it, Screech Screech Screech!! My husband and I alway look at each other and think, if its loud here....:wideyed: And the other neighbor...I'm right there in her house and if you leave the room, look out! Screech Screech Screech! LOL :groan: Oh, boy! Goes right through me! Ya can't even talk. They are adorable and really make me laugh....until they screem!!! :pullhair:

Yes when these Cockatoos get on a roll their screeching is deafening and extremely nerve being peeled raw annoying. If my Cockatoo gets crazy with it I just cover her up or give her a bath, then she gets quiet while preening her wet feathers. The cover I have for her is black. I have to block out all light so the cover has to completely cover her cage with no area where she can see out. If it isn’t black then she will still screech. It gets crazy but she usually only does it for a few minutes in the morning and at night when she is ready to go to bed.
For the most part she really is a good Cockatoo unlike others I have seen that screech all the time.

He's just having a conversation with you!

Well then he started doing the cutest little growl and kinda talk at the same time

As I am sitting here reading/typing, MoMo...has his chin on the arm rest of my chair...doing a low throaty growl/whine....that sounds like...
Mom..mom...mom...mom...mom...mom.

It kinda hit me....anyone who might be suffering from empty nest syndrome ...needs a Doberkid!!!

Buddy whines all the time, I feel your pain, the whistle is horrendous. If we leave, he screams. We believe he is terribly spoiled:dontpanic:, but it never stops. Some whine a lot others little but they all whine, this from working on our 6th.

Oh the whining is a permanent fixture. Just wait until the groaning starts. Whine, whine, grooooaaaaannnn. The African Grey has picked up and imitates Bacall’s whine to a tee.
Hubs seems to think because I tune out the birds screaming and chatting that I can also tune out the whine but it’s that high pitch that drives you bonkers!!!
Sorry but your bird imitating the dog I love it, too quiet around here since Floyd died I welcome the noise

Yes yes yes, that is the issue here! Our rescue only barks outside at virtually nothing. I love how Dobes communicate it's like they are trying to say something, makes me miss the big galut more

Wow, thats just like one of my neighbors! I was over there at night and it was dark in the house and she was whispering. I'm like  She said once the bird is "put to bed" if she sees a light or heres too much noise, she'll start up! :wideyed: We went into another room and we must have turned on too many lights (2) or spoke too loud, cuz sure enough! :pullhair: I said what if you actually wanted to do something after hours or have a party?? Crazy that a bird rules the house! I thought a Doberman was bad! :spit:

I don't get the whining part from the dogs I know it's did it sometimes but he wasn't that Lloyd or that intrusive and when you told him to get lost her basically would grumble like he was saying some curse words under his breath then he would quit. It was never out of hand. The only time it was loud as I said was when he felt it was time to switch meaty bones with the other dog and she wasn't ready. We usually let them work out out themselves he would whine and make all kinds of high pitch barks right in the other dogs ears then she would finally just give up. A few times she kind showed get teeth at him then both bones for taken away like this from bad kids. Didn't want any of that.
That bird thing though makes an answer of no real easy the next time my wife's said we should get a cockateil or any other birds that can imitate.
I would put up with all kinds of whining if I had to just to get the big guy back. Gonna be a long 6 months to a year of having a puppy. It will be worth it, I Hope!

I'm curious when all this whining started. I am more than happy with my new puppy, but boy-howdy, I could do without some of the vocals (now 4 months old and yes, a terrible whiner & whistler). Before this one I had 2 Dobes, one in the 80's and the other born in 1991, so I've been a long time without one. Back then Dobermans were really really popular and I knew many people with them. Mine, nor any of the ones I knew of, whined or whistled. They might groan, or talk softly, but none of this high pitch wheeeeeeeeeeee, or shreiky bark when frustrated. They were velcro dogs to be sure, but I never saw or knew of any with separation anxiety. They were calm cool and collected and I'd never imagine them being whiny. So, the past couple of years, when I started reading up on this breed with intentions of getting one and read about all this whining I was pretty surprised. I was hoping it was training issues, not hereditary traits, but I'm finding with my puppy I can shush her only to a certain degree, and agree that it has become an inborn trait. Am I the only old-time who remembers a time when this was practically unheard of??? Did it come with breeding out the hardness for show? Did it come from trying to breed sharpness back into working Dobes? Are certain lines more prone to it? Curious for input, especially from those of you who had Dobes way back when.

Actually, now that you say that @Ravenbird I don't think I remember my first Doberman doing this whining. (1995-2005) It wasn't as long ago as you are talking about but still a while ago. Maybe I just don't remember (My husband doesn't either) but not remembering makes me think it must not have been an issue either! Hmmm. Interesting.
