Weight gain

My boy (age 3) has been a picky eater since 6 mos, even with raw food. A few months ago I started him on a supplement called Yea-Sacc (1/4 tsp sprinkled on food) and that has helped a lot with the pickiness, and he has gained about 5 lb. If your boy is not picky, simply giving him about 1/4 lb raw ground beef daily would help. My dog's breeder recommended that.

Food debates are second only to crop vs dock which are second only to "positive only"...and can get "spicey"...😉

I do notice that There are a LOT of people feeding raw,
but if it were me on a puppy, and want to be safe, I'd cook meat to 165degrees,

just as I would for myself on chicken which is the most common source of salmonella.
I was not aware that beef could be contaminated until I read the above.

My $0.02 and YMMV

Salmonella can be deadly for animals.

Of course. That's why the wolves and coyotes order their meat precooked. :sunglasses:

It is rare (pun intended) for carnivores to get ill from such bacterias but not impossible. I will never say never, but the biggest reason raw dog food is recalled for salmonella is for the safety of humans more than the dogs, and laws demand it and lawsuits will happen, so there's that. Humans should be smart enough to wash their hands after handling raw meat whether they are fixing dinner for the dog or rubbing steaks for the grill. Because humans don't have the stomach of a dog.

Your breeder is an idiot! Salmonella can be deadly for animals and humans. Why roll those dice.
So no steak tartare for you I'm guessing.

Just want to get the facts out there. Salmonella poisoning is VERY rare in dogs. I have fed raw for years with multiple dogs and never experienced it.
When I first started feeding raw my Vet told me that dog is more likely to get sick from kibble than raw. So the reality is the benefits of feeding raw far out weigh any risk.

Just want to echo this sage advice. I have fed raw to 2 dogs for the last 16 years and never had an issue. I had to put my old girl on raw when she was about a year old because she could not process any type of kibble and looked like she was being starved to death.

My current boy was weaned onto raw from his breeder which was a dream come true for me as I was planning to feed him raw anyway. He has never had kibble in his life but I'm sure he would love it as he will eat anything. Veggies and fruits are treats for him and he even likes lettuce and spinach.

Good luck to you in whatever you feed your dog. It should be what works for them. What kind of kibble are you feeding? Maybe it doesn't agree with them or maybe they don't like it. I certainly hope they don't have an issue processing it like my old girl did or you may be forced to look at alternatives that you do not seem open to or informed about.
