Update on Mercy.

We survived the first week with no problems to speak of. Mercy gained 1 1/2 lbs she is now at 19 lbs. She is going in on Aug 27th for her last round of puppy shots and a rabies shot. The vet recommended we keep her at home until the shots are finished. She seems so small next to Preacher, never the less they seem to be enjoying each other. I think we are starting to get into a routine. When I first started putting her in her kennel she was pretty vocal for the first few minutes. She seems to be improving after only a week. It's a good thing I'm retired because the two of them consume a lot of my time. I really enjoy being with them, I don't know how I did it with our other Dobies when I still worked.

All sounds good! It’s amazing how much time is involved training and taking care of these pups. I’m caregiver to Titan when Jemma and Alex are at work, so I’m literally going from one dog to the other. Though I must say, it’s the best job in the world

It feels like a full time job!! I work from home so I don't know how some do it with a normal job. Thankfully since I am home all day Ripley has responded to kennel training quickly and already settled down in there throughout the day except for some whining at bed time. The potty breaks every two hours is something else but today she has let me know every time and she's only been home since Sunday evening. I can't imagine the mess if I worked outside the home! So good to hear Mercy has been a blessing to your home.

I'm with you on the potty breaks every 2 hours. Our pattern at night seems to be go to bed around 10 pm, she goes out around 1 or 2 am and then again around 4:30 am. We get up around 6 am to have breakfast and start the day.

Do you think Preacher genuinely likes having her? I sometimes wonder if my boy would be happier with a dog companion.

I think he would. I'm sure he's happy now but there's a huge difference in energy and behavior when there are two; translated to more content, tired dogs.

My wife made the comment she thinks Preacher acts like he is happier. They sure look to me like they are enjoying each other.

I haven't been on for a while because I stay very busy now that we have two. Update, things are going very well and they seem to really love each other. Preacher puts up with so much, sometimes she sits on him or straddles him. Wherever Preacher goes Mercy is not far behind. Mercy is very loving, loves to cuddle and give kisses. She is also more gentle with our cats. We are working on leash training, still have a ways to go. One issue we have is she gets car sick, never had that problem with Preacher. Another issue we have is she likes to scratch at the ground and then nibble on the dirt. We can't seem to get her nails as short as I would like. Our groomer said her quick is farther out than Preachers so there is only so much she can do. They both get their nails trimmed every 3 wks. I forgot what it was like potty training, we are doing better. Mercy weighed 17.5 lbs when we got her July 26th, a few days ago she weighed 36 lbs. She looks long legged and seems very lean. I'm considering increasing her food intake, always acts like she is starving. That's about it for now.

She sounds like she is keeping you guys busy! So cute to see them copy and follow the older ones. We definitely need a pic update since the last one!

They both get their nails trimmed every 3 wks.

Oh they have to get trimmed much more often than that to keep them short. Ripley gets trimmed once a week or I would lose ground on those quicks!

I agree with Rits, I dremel nails every Saturday. I have to go buy a new dremel though, the one I have now sounds like a frocking jet engine. No way I am going to acclimate Freyja to that thing, it will scare the shit out of her.
