Should o be concerned?
Lived here over 20 years. Never seen one.
Well this evening the dogs were acting alarmed, running through my squash plants, and Millie spit out a toad.
Low light situation here. So I didn’t see any colors but recognized the hop/evade.

Millie foaming at the mouth(I wiped it off twice) drooling excessively.

She dropped it and Rocky went in for the finish. Fortunately his “leave it” is better than hers:rofl:

Hmm......hard to say. I don't know anything about the toads in your area. The heavy drooling is pretty normal since toads do secrete a toxin as a defense mechanism. The question is how toxic is this toad?
Rue hides toads in her mouth and sneaks them in the house.  Not sure if she has become immune because she doesn't really drool. Maybe she just has a super tough mouth because she also eats bumblebees

My pal Fireman Dave assured me there’s nothing to worry about with So Cal toads.
Was a bit concerned due to the profuse drooling for a few minutes.
She seems fine now. And her “leave it” towards the entire area seems to have improved.

Wow in 20 years you've never seen a toad? That's pretty amazing that it would finally show up in your backyard. We have a million Toad's here. But my dogs aren't interested in them thank God. And I don't know what kind you have there either. I hope she's feeling okay by now.

we have tons of toads our pups snap at them ace seems to be the only one that leaves them alone its toad pee that makes them foam at the mouth when they pick them up to throw around its never made my dogs sick sick but they do gag and foam till they drink water so we always make sure lots of water when they start playing with the toads .

It’s a couple of miles to any water source they would reproduce in.
Pretty dry here so I wouldn’t imagine they’d venture too far from it?
But yeah. Don’t see them around here like we did in Yoruba Linda. They were everywhere there when I was a kid.

I've been wondering if anyone else had to deal with their pup's fascination over frogs/toads. Remi bounces/pounces at them then begins the drooling & foaming from the mouth.
