Mia, our swiss Shepherd, broke a Sprenger choker on Sunday at training, (At the time she was benched). During Scruffy's lesson the instructor did a "be on guard / watch" exercise, Long story short, the swiss lady took exception to her besti being "threatened" and..................... Well...... Broke free..... and came in all <teeth blazing>....

I was just as surprised as everybody else... Quite out of character...........She is NOT a problem /

No harm done...................

So, I've ordered a Sprenger pressure collar for the Swiss lady.....

Hope to get it come stunning-day (Sunday)

Hi K
I don't think "threatened" would be the correct interpretation... Definately protective...

Mia, The Swiss girl, grew up from teeny-tiny with Scruffy. Scruffy was onalert, barking and lunging at the end of the leash with the instructor agitating her....

Mia interpreted that as Scruffy being unde threat and her defensive instinct kicked in....

The big surprise here is that she seperated a Spreger full choke collar.......... Like it was not even there.... Nothing wrong with the collar....... Just the surprising amount of force / momentum that she achieved..... WOW !

And she ain't the biggest of dogs.... I'd say a small medium......

Hee is my 8Yo G/daughter training her, under guidance of the instructor..

I've heard that Sprenger prongs can come apart. When we first learned how to put it on, we had to slide it over his head. Um, over a dinosaur head and still have it small enough to sit at the top of the neck...no. We take it apart at the third link on either side of the square piece and make use of the safety strap when on neighborhood walks. Too much risk when it is prime time for dog walks. If the third link ever breaks, we replace it. It has happened once in two years but he doesn't pull like he used to either.

Oooooo love to live in the "States" you guys havn't a cooking clue how lucky you are being so spoilt for choice... We got's one...................

Only one supplier of specalised training gear......

Lot's of common commercial crap, imported from China ETC but only one supplier of specialised gear...

For Scruffy, I've had to hand make all her agility stuff... Long-jumps / high jumps / collapsed tunnel and so on...

There just isn't anyone around..

Anyhow, I get's it come Sunday, been using the instructors collar...
