Sky's Pickup & Arrival... Finally !!!

I have some pictures so you can enjoy Sky in her full glory. We have removed the tape on her ears and as far as I can see her crop is standing perfectly.

Don't mind the white stuff, it's tape left over... I didn't want to remove it so soon after.

She is a beauty! I may guess she has strong personalities. How does she behave with Joe? Does she bite?

Somebody told me... Dobergirls rule the roost. Now I believe it... and poor Gino does.

I can't stop giving Altobello props for how she was trained, she knows the basics and is almost completely trained to do her business outside, a few slips here and there cause she needs to learn to give a sign when she needs to go but most of the time we can easily spot when she needs to go. She wasn't afraid of Joy at all when they first met, she recognized something in Joy I'm guessing because she wasn't impressed at all, she was just acting like it was the most normal thing in the world. I know for a fact she's trained because of the way she walks on the leash, she is focused on the "handler" and when I stand still she sits next to me, typical showring behavior so I think Altobello set the ground work for that.

She listens very well, sits without command when I want to leash her, sits when she enters the house and she sits on my command when we're crossing the street and waiting for the cars to drive by.

No food issues, Joy leaves her alone while eating. Her doodoo is solid, like it should be.

She can be alone, haven't really tried longer periods of time but while I was working today my girlfriend went out with Joy and left Sky at home and according to my girlfriend she went to sleep and was sleeping on the couch when she got back and when we leave the living room, she doesn't panic. She sleeps in the living room together with Joy at night, this went perfect from day 1 and I haven't heard any crying or barking.

She seems very playful although Joy still wants to play alone, she accepts Sky but has not attempted to play with her on her own but I notice she's getting more and more used to Sky, so that should just be a matter of days before they kick it off together.

Taking a walk with the both of them goes pretty easy, nothing special really, they both just do their thing.

Joy has always accepted other dogs, she has done this with Dakota and with the rescue we briefly had in our home and with Sky she again accepts it like she had always done before. She has also always accepted other dogs in our home when friends of ours came over with their dog. There's always that bit of jealousy when you play with one or the other but that's normal. Joy isn't a focal dog and she knows she's queen of the house as far as dogs so she's real easy about it.

I am seriously amazed with how easy going Sky is. I don't know exactly what Altobello trained with her but I can see a lot of showring training in her, the way she walks to leash, her posture when she's looking at something, the typical Doberman stance.

My girlfriend can't wait to start doing Obedience and Socialization training with her, she's gonna be the start of the class :P

All things considered, I think I can be really proud to have her.
 
What a wonderful report - and she must have a wonderful, stable temperament to be so confident and self assured. What a blessing to have good leash manners and house manners in place as a starting point - I am sure with such lovely groundwork she will surely be the star of the class - these dobes spoil you in training class - everyone is always jealous of how smart my Jazmine is!

Dakota after such a rough experience with your last puppy, you deserve an easy one this time around!
 
I am so proud, she has a very good character but she does need socialization, I had friends over tonight and when they approached Sky outside when I was walking her she was hesitant to approach them, she is new to certain situations with more then a few people or she is just not used to having a family situation.

I love having this situation, an older puppy, ground work has been done and she's still enough puppy to enjoy their silly and clumsy puppy moments.

I actually had a really interesting walk yesterday with Sky alone. We were standing on a grassy field infront of an apartment building where on the third floor people were making some cracking sounds and Sky barked at them in a protective way... I was like... "Holy.... you're 5 months old, what are you doing ?"

Right now, when Joy is barking at other dogs when she's looking at the window, Sky barks with her... it's very funny to see..

her face, her eyes look very intense but gentle to me. I think you really
struck it rich, she is BEAUTIFUL and looks to be very intelligent.

Wow, she sounds perfect! So well grounded and adjusting like she's lived with you from the start! AND she's gorgeous! Can't ask for much more! She will be a delightful addition to your household. :D
