Skin issues

So I have a 9 1/2 to 10 week old blue dobbie. He has been having some issues with itchy skin. And dry flakey skin. And he has been biting as his feet.. his feet look good and clean. No redness. But he has rough patch on the top of his head and the skin looks a little rough on his back … any suggestions? image.webpimage.webp

any suggestions?
It's not uncommon for puppies to get a staph infection (pyroderma). I would start with getting that confirmed and treated.
Next I would search this forum for blue puppy and skin problems. I'm assuming you are aware of the possible skin issues with dilutes so help is here! You should be able to find all the answers you need to help you get your adorable little shark what he needs.

Welcome from Minnesota! Cute pup!

Aside from what the others said, what kind of food is he on?

Yes, if it's staph it can be treated to give him relief :)
Yes.
Ask the vet to take a scrape and send to the lab- to identify the staph and recommend best meds. Iirc MSU is the gold standard for labs but my vet used IDEXX and the info was complete and on target.
Primary vet also said "chlorhexedine shampoos are good start but do not use daily regularly over time" - like you can get at Amazon, Chewy, pet store daily "as it may build up resistance."

Oh I’m fully aware of all that is to come with his skin, but I’ll definitely get that looked into! Thank you 🫶🏼
Glad you are aware and just know it doesn't have to be as bad as people make it sound. While he will always have less hair per square inch, he may not have all the problems that come with the dilution gene.

Thank you! And I currently have him on purina one lamb and rice. The breeder had him on that in the beginning. I’ve been looking into changing his food to maybe something with fish and grain free to see if maybe that will help.

That food does have a lot of junk fillers that can intensify skin and coat issues so it would be a good idea to gradually switch to something with better ingredients.

You don't necessarily want to go to grain free with the studies on Dobermans and DCM.
If you find a food you might want to try, check it out on this site to see how it's rated.

What do you feed yours?

We feed Taste of the Wild Ancient Grains and they do well on it.
