Skin issue on neck

Hi all,
I really need help and I am hoping with all of the knowledge and experience in this forum someone might point me in the right direction. My one year old female has a skin issue on her neck. She has been to the vet 3 times. Two rounds of antibiotics, Chlorhexadine baths, blood work and nothing is helping. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Only wears a collar on walks.

One of mine used to 'occasionally' get that same look on her neck back when I was feeding the Purina stuff. (corn garbage)

The coat around the neck looked just like that picture just not 'all' of the time. It came and went.

Since the food change I have not seen any sort of skin issues like that again at all.

Has she had her thyroid checked? Full panel.

Is she on flea medicaiton? Sometimes flea allergies can cause a reaction and scratching.

Hi all!
Thank you so much. So, she had a scraping no mites she is on flea medication doesn't have fleas. Her breeder said he only fed Purina Pro Plan so that is what I have been feeding. We have our next vet appointment on Friday and I am going to ask for he hydroid panel. Any suggestions on he right type of food. The vet suggested Purina as well. Thank you for the help!

No odor or drainage. Just dry flaky.

She is on Purina Pro Plan. I had my concerns but vet and breeder aid it was good.

My Freyja had something like that and I switched her to Fromm Trout and Whitefish and her skin and coat shined up really nice. Then neighbor poured fish fry oil on fence line that she got into- ripped up her GI tract. So had to take her off the Trout and Whitefish because of the high fat content.

Tbh, I would try Taste of the Wild brand of really anything but chicken based protein.

That’s the cool thing of TOTW, they have different flavors. I would pick an ancient grain formula.

If you GAVE me a bag of Purina for FREE -

I would not even donate the leftovers to a shelter before getting rid of it. Even shelter dogs deserve better than that.

The extra money that I was spending on Vet bills back when I was feeding Purina to my girls was a LOT more than the tiny bit extra that I am now spending on their kibble.

$43.99 for a 40lb bag here locally at TSC. Possibly could be found cheaper? but happy to give TSC my money so buy it there and am happy about giving them my business.

Thank you so much. I feel so dumb. Honestly my sweet Keira came to me with Giardia from the breeder and I have questioned so much as I have read tirelessly through the posts in this forum. I am very thankful to have this input! Will post how we do

I really think you will see a change. If not, then at least you got away from PPP. I say that but have used PPP Salmon and rice for extreme upset stomachs and diarrhea. Other than that, I am not a fan of the ingredient list nor the large numerous smelly piles of poo it produces. You can tell a lot about a dogfood and if it is good for your Doberman by the amount and consistency of their poop. Sounds gross, yes but facts. We call it poop patrol around here.

If you don’t see a change then you can rule that type of food as not being the allergy and eliminate elsewhere.

The Diamond that @EricA posted is a good company/product too.

Be aware that TOTW Bison has a higher protein of 32%. You will need to transition off of PPP gradually onto full bowl TOTW and then even then the higher protein % may cause some tummy issues. Didn’t happen with either of mine but have read about issues.

Right? This girl can fill a dumpster in a week with the amount she poops. It’s crazy. Going to transition her and cross my fingers.

A heaping table spoon of canned pumpkin added to the kibble will keep things firm while making the transition.
