Skin/fur issue

Someone please help me figure out what the issue is with my boy renjis fur. He’s 3 years old and I’d say over the past year and a half his skin has became very itchy, to the point where just petting him gets his legs going. He’s started getting flaky and patchy fur now as well. Everytime we go to the vet they try something, it doesn’t work and then a month later try something else and it’s just taking forever to diagnose. Currently we have him on hydrolyzed protein diet. It doesn’t seem to have any effect. If anything his skins gotten worse (though idk if that’s related but could be I guess) they said he had a skin infection so they gave a medication but like the food had no effect and has only gotten worse. Thyroid has been tested with nothing coming back.

Can anyone help? I feel so bad for my boy. IMG_0652.webpIMG_0653.webp

Welcome from Minnesota!

It looks like perhaps allergies. Has he been tested? Has the vet done a skin scrape?

Yes I believe he has a while back but he has a check up in a week and I’m gonna request another one. I’m starting to lose faith in our vet and may be looking for another soon.

If you’re going to find a new vet try finding a holistic one. They still use conventional medicine but they consider all the possible side effects much more than regular vets. Also, it sounds like the problems started back when the dog was 1.5 years old. Very young to have this issue so might want to support the immune system - bone broth, goats milk, kefir, and or probiotics.

That picture breaks my heart, that is where my Keira was. We tested thyroid, did 5 different scrapings, went to a dog dermatologist, did allergy testing., antibiotics for "skin infection" which then caused gut issues.... all the things. For my girl it ended up being allergy to Bermuda grass and grains. It took 4 months of allergy shots (Cytopoint) to really see a difference, diet changes and any time she is out on grass each night before bed we do a rinse of....it is not ideal but really has helped arrest the problems!! Keira is still on he Cytopoint injections and will continue for a couple more months. They are pricey 290 a month but sooooo worth it. Today she is her happy, non-bolding, non-itchy scratchy self :)
