River at training Nov 26

I'm afraid all I have to share is this one photo. I couldn't find our camera in my bag today and will have to search for it. Its really too bad because we had a great session. We had only a few dogs so we managed to get training in on all three phases today. River had a typical puppy track for her first one, she bounced and wiggled all over. In her defense we hadn't tracked in a long time and the cover was poor. The cover was so bad I couldn't see my track and lost the end of the first one. Her second one was much better. She settled in and focused much better. I didn't have enough flags for a third and the cover was so bad I wouldn't have been able to see it without one. Spock had an amazing track. Pat messed up and thought he'd missed the corner but Spock kept pulling like "hey dumby we haven't hit it yet". He took Spock off and put him back on the track only to realize the dog was right, lol. He gave Spock his head and the boy took the corner like a champ. Next time he'll listen to the boy.

Everyone loved River's OB. They were very impressed with her focus and attention for her age. I committed a rookie mistake today and forgot to take off my sunglasses. I couldn't understand why she was forging and distracted then it dawned on me, duh she can't see my eyes! Took them off and what do you know? There was the awesome puppy I'd been seeing. Spock had a good OB session, too. He took the full height jump for the first time on his own, lol. Pat went to take the first board out to start him out easy and as he reached for the board Spock jumped the whole thing, LOL! So they just worked at full height. He was bad about clipping the top or jumping off it with his back end but after a few tries he finally figured it out and everyone cheered for him when he sailed over it cleanly. He was so proud of himself.

Spock's protection session was the best we've seen in a while. It was disheartening at first because he started out acting all shy and squirrely like he had been. Not committing and trying to hide behind Pat. After a couple easy bites he suddenly seemed to come out of his funk and came on strong. By the end of it Pat was sending him next to the blind for bark and holds and he was striking nicely and hard. The fastest recovery we've seen in one session. River had two sessions. The first one she was just watching another really vocal dog in the club but she really had to poop so her head wasn't in it and we didn't get anything out of her. (But I do owe the club a case of beer for her going on the field...ugh!) So at the end of the day we went over to the side of the field and she and dad did some work with the tube. He got some great barks out of her and some solid bites. She's still teething and I forgot her harness so we kept it easy. She bled on the tube a bit, though. At the end we let her run the tube back to the trailer and everyone saw her bite. They were very impressed. What can I say, she's my little rising star!

Gosh, she's looking so grown up since the last time! Love her bite there and hooray for both of them doing so well! I'm glad for you both. :)
Thank you! It was a very satisfying day for everyone. I swear I blinked and she went from cute tiny puppy to little dog! Its sad and great all at the same time. She's always had a lovely deep bite. She really is just amazing left and right.

Jess sounds like you guys had a great day. It was rainey and cold here so we stayed in and tried to keep Helio occupied. Have you guys ever used the marker chalk - really helps marke corners and I have even marked articles in the beginning just to be sure we did not miss them. The dog can't see the marker chalk- Put it back about a foot to let you know you are approaching the corner.

LOL, love the fact that Spock showed his Dad up on the tracking thing. :D
He felt so silly. But it also gave him a confidence boost because that means Spock really has the idea now and is ready to move on to the next level.

So cute! I didn't know River was teething yet :D She'll have her big girl teeth soon!
Oh yes! Almost done, actually. Last I checked she just had a couple molars and her top canines to go!

Haven't tried that. Where can you get it? Carole was suggesting fishing weights with some of that orange construction ribbon tied to it. You just toss them to the side of the track at articles or corners as you're making the track.

Too bad on the camera, always love seeing the pics. River looks really good, I guess the sweet potato is doing the job.
Worst part? I realized I had the camera in my bag the whole time. Ugh! It wasn't in its usual pocket and I didn't have time to dig when we were training. Next time I'll check better. The sweet potato is doing a great job. Stopped it for a while when I ran out and her ribs were showing again. Put her back on it and they now have a nice light covering on them. She's just so active and not a big eater so its hard to keep that layer on her.

What a clever couple of babies you have. You must be so proud of both of them.
Thank you! I'm very proud of them both. They both have such heart and really love the sport. That's all I really care about. Even if we never get another title, as long as the dogs are having fun we'll keep training.

Jess you can get the marker chalk at Lowes or home depot. I relaly like it because it is easy and the dogs can't see it - anything that moves in the wind can draw their alttention away from the track or gives them a clue then you have the problem of no marker no corner. You want to know that they are actually tracking not keying in on markers.

I'll see if I can find it. Does it go away on its own? We have to use public parks for training and I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate it if we mark up their fields.

She's such a cutie with her bite roll. Haari hates those things so we had to put her on a bite cushion/pillow right off the hop. It's hilarious watching them do 'big dog' stuff. I swear they try to live up to their older sibs' accomplishments. ;)
