Rescue transport search (Cal. --> KS) -- Dog at risk of euthanasia

New forum member, but prior owner of a half and then a full Doberman (both challenging rescues); the full was the main picture on the Wikipedia Dobe article for many years! :) (No longer, unfortunately.)

Our latest dog (14+ years old) passed recently, and we've found our next -- a natural ~1 year old Dobe in central CA. However, we are in N.E. Kansas, and it is too far to drive {Unfortunately KC Dobe Rescue shut down; founder J.T. passed recently and A. C-H/K. is very retired.} So we are looking for a rescue flight/transport, and probably only a modest donation to a charity flight group is reasonable as the dog will need neutering soon after arrival (shelterer says he is healthy and up to date on vaccines though, and has medical paperwork).

I have a message out to Dog is My CoPilot, but there is time pressure. Anyone work with any of the other (charity) rescue flights organizations, and can recommend them for this CA --> KS Dobe?

P.S. Here's that Wikipedia picture of the prior rescue -- you may remember her! This pic was from only a month or two after we adopted her via A. of KC Dobe Rescue. She had been beaten, starved, and likely chained outside (our stairs, storm doors, mirrors were all new to her); she also had amateur alterations. To her end, due to the predicted heart failure at 12+, she hated, with the greatest of passion, 1) Harleys and 2) UPS delivery truck sounds. We thus think her rescued-from "being" was thus a ...

Good on you! Good luck on donation of flight.

Just Curious about transport: is driving by car ok? I've seen one vehicle marked K9 transport, and read of others: several websites online.

Is it the time in crate that is the issue?
What does the rescue recommend?
How about breeders?
This is an aspect about "next big dog" thats a couple years out but figure I'll ask, in re: rescues, as I'd want to chose a dobe that's specialized in them for years.

Welcome from Minnesota and I hope you can get the dog home okay. Is the rescue okay with with the dog being transported out of state? I ask since many rescues don't allow it.

We have used an excellent transport guy a few times and he picks up and delivers door to door. He's not free but the care along the way is excellent.

Whats the typical charge to go, say halfway across country? What qualifications should one screen for, in ground transport?

Just curious.

It would likely be two or three days in a crate (Rockies in-between). IMHO, far too long/stressful/depressing for a big, young, energetic (male) dog.

So far, very "yes." Many of the charity rescue flight orgs specifcally state their mission is to transport rescues from high-supply CA and the southern states to higher demand/lower supply northern.

Car/truck or plane? If plane, is CA-->KS likely in his range?

Ours were picked up in Paducah, KY and brought to northern Mn. I believe it was about $350 and he makes regular stops to let the dog out to potty and exercise a bit.
Car/truck or plane?
He drives a van and crates the dogs in the back. It only took about a day for our dogs to get from KY to MN.

I honestly don't know since this is the one many reputable breeders use so we reached out to him.
