if any of you are curious - goose is doing really REALLY well. he is perfect off leash again. still some reactivity on leash but those instances are getting fewer and further in between, and it’s getting a lot easier to get him to knock it off on those occasions that they do still happen. so i think we’re mostly through the low confidence itself (though i won’t get complacent) and now it’s just about taking the time to break down the lingering bad habits that formed during that rough patch.
if you’re curious, here’s a pretty kick butt video the guy who helped train him just posted (which i took when it was just me and goose the other night) - CANIS on Instagram: “Just got an update video from on of my clients @robertojleonardo who sent me this awesome video update of his dog Goose @dobe_af Rob…” . it’s pretty remarkable what these guys are capable of. there will always be room for improvement if for no other reason than training is fun for him and for me both, but if he stalled where he is in this video and stayed that way forever - worse things have happened because while not always perfect, he’s pretty damn good.
also, omg e collar is so so awesome. and whoever said above somewhere that their dog gets excited when it goes on cause he/she knows what it means - yep, i’m starting to see that too. i guess i’m glad i resisted it for as long as i did since that’s probably helped me use it as it’s intended and have the right attitude about/expectations for it - but part of me wishes i’d caved sooner. it’s so awesome and completely changed everything for us. i think most important is the confidence boost it gave me, which very quickly positively channeled its way back into goose.
thanks again for the spirit animaling and advice, folks!
