One of our doxies is, unfortunately, suffering from IVDD and has to be crated almost constantly to limit his movement. He and Birdie are best friends and she’s been so sad and worried about her “big” bro.

Since I’m usually sitting in the spot right next to the crate, Birdie decided she’d take up a spot on top of it!!


She noses him, stands watch, and naps on top of the crate. What a sweet nurse he has!!

He’ll be crated for about 2 weeks and is taking rimadyl. We’re really hoping to avoid surgery but it sure is hard to keep him locked up. Birdie’s love and attention is definitely helping him to heal!!

Restriction of movement and crate confinement must be really hard on you all but it’s so important to let the natural healing process take its course so it can repair the damage to his spinal cord.

Opie is almost 10 years old. This is his first bout with IVDD but our other doxie suffered from it several years ago and had to have surgery. As hard as it is to keep Opie confined, the memories of Beatrice’s paralysis, surgery, and long recovery help us stay diligent with the vets orders!

Birdie stays right with him. It’s very sweet and it makes me feel better about having to leave him for errands or a quick shower . I know he doesn’t feel sad or alone.
