New diagnosis

Not sure if any of you remember my boy Jasper. I used to post pictures regularly on here. Of course life got busy, I now have a young child and I haven’t been online in a long time.

Unfortunately Jasper has “moderate DCM” according to his echo that he had on friday.. he is almost 8yrs old and still plays hard and hardly has any grays. We will be starting medication asap of course.. I need to start taking his resting heart rate. I really just hope it gives us more time.

I don’t know anyone in person who can relate. I know some members here likely can. I didn’t ask about lifespan from here. I just hope he goes in his sleep. If you guys can just throw an extra little prayer for my baby, it would mean a lot. You guys know how special they are.. and if anyone has any recommendations, by all means send them my way.

Lovely dog. With meds and keeping weight down they can have lots more quality time...read archives here and elsewhere.

Just enjoy every day.
8 yrs is above average for what thats worth...

I know of one woman who has a beautiful 10 yr old champion showline dog, diagnosed w/ DCM at around the same age, started on meds and doing very well. His latest heart testing actually shows improvement rather than worsening of his DCM. So continue to do what you are doing for your boy, keep testing, keep the meds and cardio visits going, and continue to enjoy being with him.

Oh I'm so sorry Liz. It sounds like you are catching it early so the meds should help a lot.

And that is the encouraging thing - those meds can work wonders. @strykerdobe has a ton of good info on natural supplements you can add in addition to the meds so hopefully he will chime in shortly.

Wow that certainly helps give me hope. I am such a worrier this has me sick to my stomach.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. You all know how these dogs touch your heart. I have been crying for over three hours now. Im headed to the store to get some marrow bones for him to enjoy.

I have often wondered how Jasper was going. I hope he has some good years left for you all to enjoy. He looks wonderful!
