Looking for advise for my parents.
After having to put down one of their Goldens they have given a home to this little girlimage.webpShe's cuter than even this picture suggests.
She is somewhat timid, but is starting to come out of her shell I think.
The remaining Golden of the house(KC) has established the pecking order,KC is boss.
Sky seems very sweet, and has become KC's shadow,it's like KC has her own dog:D
Sky came to the house not knowing how to use the doggy door but has it mastered now.
She went her first week and a half with no accidents in the house, but lately...is laying down logs on the carpet. In one spot.
We suspect (know actually) the previous owner of this house had a poodle that did it's business in the house on occasion and we suspect Sky is marking on top of it?
We just can't figure why now after close to two weeks she's doing this?
The other problem is she's doing this with no witnesses, early early morning deposits or while they are gone to work during the day.
They tried that Natures Cure? I believe is the name of a spray that is supposed to deter them from depositing in areas sprayed but it's not working. In fact, she went and rolled in it after they sprayed it down.
Their temporary solutions are to close the bedroom door over night while they sleep to keep her from going out in the middle of the night, and a porta-fence during the day restricting her from that part of the house.
We(they) need a more permanent solution and or ideas why she might be doing this.
Any ideas??

Saturate the area with nature's miracle (down to the carpet pad) cover the spot with foil to keep it from evaporating so the enzymes have time to work and put a box over that spot to keep her away from it until the smell is gone. Several days normally.

Thanks.I don't know that they followed that procedure but that's the stuff they used,Sky went and rolled all over it.

Is it possible this is her way of marking her own little corner of the house as "hers"?

Problems don't always show up immediately and she has had a major change in her life. New owners - new dog companion etc.

I would restrict her movement during the night and while they are gone for at least a couple months. If that eliminates the problem why not do it??? Then as she settles in and has only had the opportunity to potty outside she will learn that that is were she goes. Dogs like children often revert BACK when they have a major change in their lives.

In this dogs case she has been handed of several times.
It's heartbreaking.People just "throw away" dogs when they tire of them or their actions rather than step up and deal.
Like the little paragraph said, turned in because they had to move. She was one of their four dogs.
This was another of the four.image.webpI was pushing for them to get Dottie but they in good conscience could not.Dobermans are not right for everyone and they know this.

That's just terrible :( It makes me mad that people can just dump animals like used furniture. I know sometime there is no other choice but to rehome a pet but to just get rid of them because the animal has 'problem' (which is generally fixable with a little work) is wrong. I'm glad Sky was able to find a good home.

She doesn't really have a problem that I can see, other than being passed off like used furniture.People are the ones who have had the problems.
Dogs are family, they give all they can,it is our duty to return that.
I would sooner live in my truck homeless than give my dogs away.

I use the Natures Miracle too and it does destroy past odor. I was just reading that if you really saturate the area, put a layer of paper towel over it, then a layer of news paper and stand on it until you absorb it all, it will really get any deep down traces out. I think they add baking power in the spot after it's totally dry, then vacuum it out.

The other thing I swear by is the Bissel spot bot. It uses the enzyme cleaner and really deep cleans the carpet.

I also agree with keeping her gated off in a non-carpeted room until she gets the idea, or even if they try a crate for when they're not home, but I don't know if she's crate trained?

She really is a cutie!

I couldn't have said it any better! It's the one thing that irks me and saddens me at the same time.

How is Sky doing? She adorable!

So far so good,no accidents since going back to puppy like basics.
Although...the other day while we were at the pool she did a number on one of my kids shoes.
The little turkey.
No big loss as they were cheap shoes and had some miles under them.
She continues to come out of her shell, they have figured out there's a learning curve here. She's a Terrior not a Golden Retriever so they can't expect her to act like a golden.

LOL, no kidding - quite the opposite in fact. To me it seems like all the Goldies I've been around say "oh okay, whatever you want I'll do". Terriers are sort of feisty and of course intelligent so it is a bit more of a challenge and once they learn something they retain more and want to learn more. IMO

I tried to tell them that, and that terriers can be terrors:D
They're getting a kick out of her and her little personality.
She's a mighty hunter in the evenings, getting the moths and such.
They know she needs a little more exercise than she's getting,I suggested a flirt pole.
One of them has hips that are not great, both been replaced so long walks are pretty much out for the humans although the dogs would love it.
Besides that flirt pole idea any other suggestions for tiring out the little turd are welcome.

How are their arms? If we don't have time for a long walk a game of fetch in the yard always helps or since she's small enough even in the house might work.

I agree! And I'm old so my throw is crap (ok, it's always been crap :) ) but the Chuck It is the way to go! My Kali will fetch that all day long if I let her. I actually have to stop and let her rest or catch her breath! She wants to go, go, GO! But it's a good way to tire her out!

she has no interest at all in chasing or fetching a ball or toy.
So,my only idea was the flirt to tap into her prey drive.

Hmmm, that makes it a little tougher. The flirt pole is a great idea of course. What about a little obstacle/agility course? How is her recall? Take two people, one on each side of the yard and keep calling her to come back and forth. That way your parents aren't really moving much but she can get a good workout in.
