Congratulations! Nice to hear from ya'! I tell ya', when naming my Dobe, I come up with a list of dozens and dozens of names and narrow it down. Oji's breeder actually got impatient with me, and understandably so, because I took it down to the deadline choosing his registered first name.I'll be picking up a puppy around the end of May / beginning of June. I realized I never have a problem naming female dogs. I have a backlog of girls names I like. I always have a problem naming male dogs because I don't pay attention to guys names. Am I unique???
Anyway, I wanted to name him Skip after my horse (Sporty Skip Bar), who was the reason I got into Dobermans in 1982. However, my wife doesn't like the name. I even brought up Skipper in the Madagascar movies - no sale! Plus I just heard there's a dog movie called Skip that I haven't seen and don't know if it will be a positive association.
One of the names in the list, Shelby, struck me. He's Cooper's half brother. Cooper was a member of the Cars litter, as all the puppies were named after cars and his father was Winston Cup Special.
I'm old enough to remember when Shelby was a name that was highly respected and the AC Cobras owned the track. "Hey Little Cobra" was a hit song when I was a teen.
I hope I'm not clogging up this thread with my thoughts. One of the black male cuties below will be mine. The breeder evaluates the puppies at 8 weeks, so I'll know then which one I'm getting. I'm looking forward to years of fun with Obedience, Lure Coursing and Barn Hunt.

Exactly what I was going to say on both parts!Congratulations! Nice to hear from ya'!

I'm exactly the opposite and boy names come much easier but girl names are really hard for me.I realized I never have a problem naming female dogs. I have a backlog of girls names I like. I always have a problem naming male dogs because I don't pay attention to guys names. Am I unique???

Would 'Cobra' be a contender?Anyway, I wanted to name him Skip after my horse (Sporty Skip Bar), who was the reason I got into Dobermans in 1982. However, my wife doesn't like the name.

Is it really?Red Cheese
His expression paired with the back story is just pricelessYup. My daughter named him. She was 5 at the time. She thought it was the obvious perfect name. He was a red dobe and “we all LOVE cheese”....
I wanted to name him Rudy , my boys wanted Tank... so we each wrote our name choices on a posted and put it on bottom of plates- put treats on each plate then let the pup go. Which ever plate he ate off of first- that was his name. Seemed like a good idea... Red Cheese it is!
