How to share your Embark DNA data to a couple of good causes...maybe a free membership?

If you have purchased Embark Health and Breed test (which goes on sale often- its down to $129 last I looked)

And gave permission to share with the DDP

It looks like DDP is migrating data to IWDR, for use as a database to apply the retail tools like Betterbred or UCDavis VGL for litter pair planning "Estimated Breeding Values".

EBVs are used in large programs like Guide Dogs breeding where they capture enough data to be useful, as well as in cattle breeding, I understand...

There is an opportunity to give permission to simply give permission to migrate data from DDP to IWDR and get a free membership in the deal ($150?).

You'd have to look at IWDR to see if its of interest to you, of course...but its a free way to give back to the breed, if you've already paid for Embark DNA.

IF....IWDR develops tools similar to the existing tests which are sort of expensive and only useful to breeders, but in a way thats useful to a retail level owner ot breeder, then thats a good thing, correct? More ability to breed and select from healthy dogs...?

I shared it for both of our dogs when we filled out the info for DDP.

I have looked up a couple pairings between Elroy and Euro girls and the pairings did bring the COI way down.

To any noobs and lurkers, if you are considering a first dog or first dobe:

You will be so well served and getting good ROI on the dog investment by doing homework first:

in good training and some detailed "how to's" there is lots of good stuff at IWDA:

The science and best practices applied at corporate service dog programs for early socialization and attention on the handler are useful for ANY pet companion owner.

See @Ladydi comments on her work and videos from Dogs, Inc.

I recall reading "The Genius of Dogs"
and watching a documentary movie on same

About the Duke University scientist and his wife working with Canine Companions studying how their service dogs think, and alluding to an in-house breeding program designed to maximize the wisdom of one particular male that was a mentor dog, in effect to puppies bred from labs, goldens, etc to achieve both taller, healthier but with particular behavior traits...my guess is they and perhaps the CC west coast breeders would be using EBVs already...

Heres a good book on results learned

Its truly amazing to me how far science has come on dogs, especially on the behavioral side...

Back to DNA tests, and colle ting a database on a large number of the distinct breed: the point of DDP contributing its data to IWDA for their use in Expected Breeding Values research.

For noobs and lurkers- the deep value of a well run webforum is the archives you can search by topic or search word. Some related posts will show up below the last post, automatically...and its helpful to me at least, what other dobe owners have said about the dna tests that have been around awhile:

Here is a link to one I am bumping for reference: not sure exactly what IWDA will be using but BetterBred uses same pairing idea as VGLs test for litter planning.

Far thinking ethical breeders could justify the exoense if the database was bigger, and available. Lets hope thats what IWDA is trying to do: bring better tools at lower cost to beginning breeders and informed buyers who support them in best practices.

Again: if you have already tested by Embark its easy to share data for free:

If you are not sure, you can check here:

Once confirmed, then give permission to migrate your data to IWDA
