Ear posting problems

I have a 9 month old female Euro Doberman, and we’re having some real ear problems.
We’ve been having trouble with the left ear standing. We’ve been posting since about 3-4 months and it was going pretty well at first until she went to her board and train, and got the best of her trainer when it came down to the posting and constantly ripped it off she was about 7 months at the time and ever since then we can’t get it back up. It used to stand on its own but it won’t anymore and I’m in nyc and it’s extremely hard to find doctors who even look at cropped ears. I’m seeing if anybody has any advice or if you guys may think it’s too late to save the ear. She constantly ripped it off and she’s also learned that if she shakes her head enough, it’ll come off and it’s causing some serious injury to the ear. I want to let the ear heal, but I know I’m at a crucial point with the posting. We’ve decided to try the mole foam method to see if that’ll work better for her ear, because she just seems really irritated by the taping. I’m starting to get to a point where I feel defeated, and I thought about giving up on the ear that won’t stand but she’s only 9 months and I’ve heard people say they posted until 18 months. Any tips or advice would be amazing. Attached below is what the wounded ear looks like currently and how we generally post the ears.

That ear did look horribly sore but I'm guessing it's better now? Your post job looks fine but you can get by with a lot less tape and lose that center brace. There is still a chance to get them to stand of you stick with it. If she's shaking them out, they must not be deep enough into the canal.

I am sorry but I don't understand the obsession with ear posting. It clearly hurts your dog and there is no point to it. Why would you cause your dog so much pain?

I'm sorry but I find it very difficult to see these posts about ear cropping, dogs with infected ears etc. clearly painful. I'm just trying to understand why you do it, vanity, prestige? I love my doberman and I find this forum very helpful in so many ways. I apologise if you think I am out of turn mentioning this, but I just cannot stand to see animals in any pain

Your dog shakes his head and tries to rip off the tape because he is in pain, and trying to understand what is causing that pain. You think you may lose and ear, for the sake of posting? I sincerely hope you can find a way to heal your dogs ears. He doesn't need pointy ears, he is good the way God made him

But I can't look at photos of a dog's clearly very painful ears and say nothing. You should be advocating for stopping posting ears and docking tails, not vilifying me for saying something about it.

But I can't look at photos of a dog's clearly very painful ears and say nothing. You should be advocating for stopping posting ears and docking tails, not vilifying me for saying something about it.

As far as this Doberman’s ears go.
1. Looks as if you are wrapping the base too tight
2. Or not using an adhesive remover when removing tape.

One GREAT thing is that even though she is 7months and getting close…her ear has a round fold in it and I don’t see a broken crease of cartilage. So you have a legit shot at getting the ear to stand.

So if she is shaking out the post then you are not:
1. Back taping the post?
2. Pushing the post all the way down in the bell?
3. Distracting and engaging with the pup to distract it off of the annoying unfamiliar feeling of having a foreign object lodged in her ear?

Ask more questions if you need to…there still is a chance- just have to do it right.

Dogs shake because the post feels unusual. Dogs can shake because something tickles. Dogs shake off water too when wet; are you saying they are in pain being wet? The argument doesn't hold.

If you would like to remain a member here and use the information provided, you should discontinue resurrecting old threads of people looking for assistance to go OT and use as your platform to vilify those of us that choose the crop. The lurking member title is an automatic title the forum program applies to members with low posts.

Then perhaps this is not the best forum for you to visit. There are plenty of other subjects to be part of here, without debating ear cropping or criticizing people who choose it.

I'm just trying to understand why you do it

Different cultures do different things. Humans choose procedures of all different kinds, all over the world to enhance what they consider the beauty of their body or their children's bodies. Many cultures use tattoos or piercing to express their ideas, right or wrong. I don't go to a forum about an artist and instead of asking about their art ask them why they tattooed their whole arm. It's none of my business. Nor do I ask someone why their religion makes them cover their head, or ask an Amish person why they refuse to drive a car. It's none of my business. If you are on a mission to change peoples ways you need to find a different place. We are a very kind and open group here, but debating ear crops is not productive. If you use the argument of "the dog is in pain or the dog didn't ask for this" then you also must be against spay and neuter and admit that most dogs of any breed are spayed and neutered which is a major life altering surgery, is much more painful and because of hormone disruption they are never the same again. If you want to advocate for dogs, advocate for your own dogs. If you choose not to crop/dock or spay/neuter I'm happy for you & your choices and I will not tell you to change. You life, your choices, your dogs. I do not owe anyone an explanation of why I do what I do.

I will not advocate for something I don't believe in and I don't believe in banning crop/dock. I have invited you to join in on conversations where you are not vilifying the current members of this group for doing what they do. I have said already that you are certainly free to not crop & dock and there are MANY members here with natural ears and tails on their Dobermans. Those of us with c/d dogs don't tell them they need to, nor do they tell us we need to stop the practice. This is a place where we strive to get along with our differences and help each other.
