Dog chiropractor?

My chiropractor just mentioned dog chiropractic care for Pepper. Has anyone heard of this? He just got a puppy and so we were going on about dogs. I told him Pepper has some Gi issues on and off, therefore, that’s why he mentioned her seeing a chiropractor.

I don’t know how I feel about this lol. I mean maybe if it could help? Also, damage would worry me. I do trust him and his recommendations, I will also do my own research.

Curious if anyone else has heard of this as a way of treatment?

I have seen dog chiropractors at dog shows, and actually went to one years ago with our boy who had a weak looking rear....she recommended water treadmill, and never did any adjustments.
Personally; I got worse many years ago when I went to a chiro for back pain; but that's just me.
I know it is popular among many agility people and their dogs.

Yes it's very helpful with dogs and horses. I used one for Della quite a few years ago and it worked wonders and the nice thing is that he would make house calls. My friend used to have him come out regularly for her horses too.

I’m a little skeptical of chiropractors for people and even more so for dogs lol, but many people swear by them.
I swear by them for myself and the dogs. I've seen a regular doctor for back pain and they just want to give you pain meds to mask the issue. The chiropractor fixes it for you and if it's something he can't fix, he will tell you.

I agree if you find a good one they can do wonders, human wise. I have been seeing one for weeks now, I am a mess! I refuse meds as you’re right a doctor would be shoving them in my face. As for dog maybe it’s worth a shot for Pepper.

I take my dogs to a wonderful dog chiropractor. She is actually a vet and went to school for it, so its not hogwash! They don't do the obnoxious loud animated cracking you see in videos online. Its more an understanding in their skeleton and muscle groups to know when something is out of alignment. I've taken my dobes a number of times to her when something seems "off" It can take one session or multiple, before you see results but I've seen a lot of our results almost immediately. Xeno for example would always hold his tail at an angle for a long time! Decided to have him adjusted for the first time since he is a crazy dumb boy and is always bouncing up and down when he's excited. After his session, his tail is straight again!

She also offers other services like acupuncture both electric and not, magnetic therapy, and herbal medicine.

That sounds a lot better than some I’ve seen… many look very sketchy lol.

Just my experience......not all chiros are created equal. There are human chiros that take a course to be able to treat animals. Then there are Vet's that become chiros to help animals even more. Go with the Vet if you can because they know the animal anatomy better.

Yes, we take Zara and Arson for Chiropractic adjustments. Especially for Arson since we do IGP with him.

Just make sure they are certified.

Dog chiropractors can help with gastrointestinal (GI) issues by addressing underlying musculoskeletal problems. While they primarily focus on the spine and joints, misalignments can affect nerve function and overall health, potentially influencing GI function. Here are some key points to consider:

  • Chiropractic Benefits: Adjustments may relieve pressure on nerves that control digestive organs, potentially improving GI symptoms.
  • Veterinary Collaboration: It's essential to work alongside a veterinarian to ensure a comprehensive approach to your dog's health, especially for GI issues.
  • Finding a Specialist: Look for a chiropractor certified by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) for the best care. You can find certified professionals through their directory.

I just got done making an appointment with one for Zastava. I am taking her there to be proactive after her OFA hip exam noted Spondylosis. As I understand it, it's something that doesn't often cause problems, but I ask a lot of Zastava, so I figured the little extra chiropractic effort is the least I can do for her, and hopefully help stay ahead of any problems. I know I go to mine every 3 weeks whether I am in pain or not, now she will get to share in that, too. Not saying she will go every 3 weeks, but i sure will ask the chiropractor what schedule is appropriate for her.
