Bumps

I've noticed several Dobes at the shows that have quite noticeable bumps either on their back or along their sides. What could cause this?

Good question, I have seen some that have small bumps even on their head. And its not the usual pimples dobies get...

None of the dogs I noticed it on were from this general area. With the shows being across N. FL, I thought maybe it might be something seasonal. (???) Stress from traveling? Or maybe an allergic reaction to something in this area they've never been exposed to or in contact with. (???)

Hives from stress? allergies, folliculitis, or staph infections. I found that with one of my red Dobergirls, whenever I bathed her before a Show, she got Hives!

Usual pimples are the ones dobes are prone to get underneath their chins. These are like real human pimples. This other stuff sounds like it could be an alergic reaction.

I've heard allergies or staff....both my dobes have had it, both are/were reds.

-first one had them for a long time, i had him on a food at the time i thought was good....it wasn't. we moved near the wifes family and were stuggling so we pulled him off his food and put him on something even cheaper, then my wife pretty much fed him our leftovers....he basically ate what we ate for awhile....and the bumps cleared up!

-our second had them and either out grew them....(still has a couple on his chin, not near like they were and none on his back anymore), or the vet was right when he said try a food with a different meat. put him nature's variety venison wet/dry....cleared right up.

that's our experience with em'

I give them Australian Kelp once a week and never had skin problems. They will absolutely have problems if they have a flea or tick. We keep them on frontline for that.

We live in the country so sometimes they will get a scratch on the back from running under bushes or something. I use Neosporum....and it goes away but that is rare.

I don't bath them often, especially in the winter, but what I used didn't seem to matter much. I have used a made up spray on to freshen them up. I put the following in a spray bottle:

1/2 listerine..........1/2 distilled water...........or regular, not sure it matters.

1 cap of alpha kerry bath oil......

I brush them with one of those mit gloves with soft teeth...nothing that scratches....
I spray them and wipe it off. It works fine. The collie show people used listerine back in the old days since the coat would lay down etc. It works on my guys......cleans them up and gives them a beautiful shine. Too much bathing will dry their skin out...........just what I've been told.
