Bloody diarrhea??

Any tips? Mischa had soft stool earlier when we were out, and after coming in she was still a bit antsy but settled down upstairs with the kids. I just went up and there was a small pile of diarrhea with some blood in it. It was bright red, which I believe is better than dark red? Hubby said lets keep an eye tonight and see how she is tmw, shes otherwise acting fine, and know 100% has not gotten into anything. She was crated most of the day because I had an appt in philly with the specialist and shes still not allowed out when no ones home lol... afterward shes been on the couch with me, under my feet at dinner (and for once got no table scraps even) and of course in the bathroom with me while I showered. Is bright red a concern? Anything I should do?

Tough call when there's no vomitting, etc. Of she's not feeling better first thing in the AM, I would call the vet.

Bright red blood is most likely comes from the colon. Is it streaked in the diarrhea?
She drinking water? Eating ok?
If you do go to the vet try and take a stool sample with you.

Check her stool for foreign objects.

I know first hand that bone shards, plastic cups, soccer cones, etc... will do this.

Always a worry when you see blood in their poo. Keep a good eye on her and go with your gut. My first thought was foreign object but then you said she hadn’t been unsupervised. We all know how sneaky they are though!

Maybe her anal glands have got infected?

If you sure there is no way she ate something I would think about a parasite infection. Especially whipworms.
Whipworms are a major PITA! The host dog may not shed worms, only random eggs so not uncommon to get a negative stool sample. They can be a challenge to get rid of because the eggs can survive for years in the soil and reinfect.

Thanks all!! Poo is still a little soft, but no more blood today. I did take a picture of it last night for reference but figured I probably shouldnt post it shes eating fine, drinking fine, otherwise acting 100% normal!

It can also be stress related. Did it have mucousy coating around poo with the blood on that?

Those that don’t appreciate the poo detective work- pretty simple, don’t look.

That looks like stress and tummy upset. Get a fecal and take it in to be checked for parasites.

@Ddski5 no, that's the light reflecting off the liquid I did inspect it pretty close when I wiped it up. There was nothing suspicious, besides the blood. Good eye though! I didnt notice that til you said it, so glad I did inspect the paper towel last night!

I think I'd double check, because that really does look like something purple in there.
