Beast in the Badlands

We took Kaiser to the “Badlands” where there are large dinosaur bone deposits. It’s a major tourist area in summer, so it was pretty quiet now.

Lots of stairs to go down into the canyon.

We went off track here into a very narrow trail so we let Kaiser off leash so no one ended up in a hole like this!

WOW.....wow wow....really cool photos. I was going to google Hoodoo's, but hoping you will tell me what that is! Just amazing....I saw the first few photos with his leash on; and the E collar, and wondering at what point you let him go! There he was! ;)

They are pretty otherworldly to look at!
"Formed by the effects of erosion caused by water, wind, and frost, the Drumheller-area Hoodoos are striking geological formations that have become internationally recognized icons of Alberta's badlands. ... The caprocks also contains almost 40% calcite cement, making them particularly resistant to erosion"

I do know if the caprock comes off the structure, then the pillar will crumble. A few years ago some people had vandalized some of the hoodoo formations by knocking off the caprock, so some of the sites will have protective fencing around them now.

And this is why I can't stand people....WTF??? WHY vandalize??? UGH....that is amazing...thanks!!!!

So is this like a state park where you can go whenever you want and hike? Dogs normally allowed?
Yep, dogs are allowed in all the parks except on statutory holidays. In the early part of the hike there were a few more dogs and some off leash, so we waited until we were far enough before letting him off.

We also went into a nearby tourist town, but because of Covid, the whole town is very depressed and certain sites were closed for renovations, like this suspension bridge.

We went there so Kaiser could get water because no one remembered to bring water or a bowl for the devil! I swear we stumbled onto a drug deal. There were bikers and some cars acting very suspicious. It was a scary encounter because my hb went with Kaiser down to the river bank while I was supposed to wait in the car in the parking lot. Like as if I'm going to sit there by myself so I ran down to the river. The area was full of crunchy leaves and some of them were really deep so I almost fell down after tripping on a giant tree root. Once I got myself under control, I looked up to see the four horsemen of the apocalypse and then I realized it was just Kaiser :spit:

Then my hb couldn't understand what was going on and I couldn't exactly yell "they're gonna kill us!" so that was frustrating - people need to have a hand signal to indicate danger!

Later in the same town, we tried going to a popular restaurant which turned out to be closed :tap: so we got some groceries to make sandwiches and that's when the next parking lot incident occurred 🙄 I ended up getting stung by a wasp while trying to eat my sandwich and because I was panicking and I know wasps can sting repeatedly - plus the whole drug deal situation - I started screaming and I threw my sandwich but then some over aggressive pigeons swarmed around and I screamed some more 😆 So ya, at least the day started off well 🤣

THAT IS HILARIOUS!!!! I know that feeling....being "left" then noticing the surrounding people are questionable....so funny when you tell it; I can picture it perfectly!!! :tearsofjoy:. And you are correct, we do need to come up with some type of "phrase" to scream out!
