Anyone familiar with this "Doberman Guy?"

Anyone who is willing to share there knowledge and experience is totally welcome, even with the critique I’d have to say if the worst of its been the voice then your doing alright keep at it no one can please everyone and the information is still being delivered if one is open to receive. Don’t take that as you won’t get hit with a good joke every now and then;) but I believe here it’s more in good fun then anything, personally I may even joke and still learn something lol

That is a lot of Dobermans! I'm closing in on 25 years with the breed but I am only on my third one. When you only own one at a time and also have to take about a year break in between number two and number three, there are only so many a guy can own. :)

Yep. It's so crazy that sometimes I think I'm also a Doberman! :) My first ones were also just 3, one at a time, the last one from those 3 died from DCM with just 5 years. :( Still think of her everyday.

If the offer still stands – you answering any Doberman questions we may have: Do you know a way to solve the problem of a Doberman making a water mess on the floor after it drinks?

ahahahah Everything sounds normal to me!:) You can try a larger water bowl for the moment when they are drinking, it should keep some spilling when they are drinking, but the trail they leave when they're done it's normal eheheh

Why not just make a hooded bowl where they insert their mouth with a terry cloth towel ring attached to it. Then when they remove their face it wipes water from the mouth. Sort of like a terry cloth donut hole that can be removed and washed once soiled.

@Oh Little Oji,
@Jorge Amorim
He'll never spend the extra money! :D:D:D
Ha, he sent me two beautiful giant heavy stainless water bowls a few years ago and I'll always be thankful for them.

I totally agree and this is the right place to talk anything and everything Doberman. I personally like the accent in the voice. ;)

I expect some easy judgments on YouTube, 90% of them are just that, and don't affect me at all. Not in reputable Doberman forums. You can't judge someone by his voice, and you gave a great example. (Curiosity: Hawking's used to joke with his own voice, he even didn't wanted it upgraded to a less robotic one).
You make a good point. I could listen to Hawking all day long.

Actually, years ago, I bought a travel water bowl that is designed to be used in the car. It has essentially a hooded lid like you mention. The opening is rather small – maybe three inches. The opening dips down so that the bowl can be jostled around without splashing out. Hmmm. I bet I could go find that in the basement right now. It might keep him from so much burying his beak in the water and this would cut down on the slop. Hmmmmmm.

@Oh Little Oji
Good question!!! I even wondered if some rich monarch/king, in history, tried to tighten up the bottom jaw line skin by sewing the holes. Because, damn.....what a mess mine makes!!!

@Jorge Amorim
6 Dobermans- 30yrs?? wow.... a lot of love and time in to the Doberman breed then.

So I am curious, apparently you are very passionate about the breed....
What initially brought you to the Doberman? What is your favorite characteristic? Lastly, what keeps you coming back?

The voice doesn’t necessarily bother me, it just kinda makes it impersonal. I tend to think that hearing a human voice has more of a caring trustful connotation. After all, most if not all, Doberman or just plain dogs owners are very passionate and love their animals.

@Ddski5

Yep. Living with them since 1988 :) I got my first Doberman when I was 17. I loved their look and agility when necessary, and it was the first time I saw a Doberman with a police officer. :) The rest is the same as with any other Doberman owner, we just can't live without them!

Even with all the health problems in the last decades, I just can't identify with other breed. I can say that I can read what's in a Doberman's mind :) I know when they're happy, sad, just curious or want to play. Also, at the toughest times of my life, they were my support, not people, but dogs, and Dobermans in particular.

Yes. When I was 17, my girlfriend and her mother (no Dad in the picture :() had a male Doberman. It made a big impression on me. I remember when she said to me "Check this out." and opened the front door a bit and said the word and he broke into huge, deep defensive barking. I'm not sure if it would impress me much these days, but it did back then. I thought it was pretty awesome. It was also quite a sight, that pretty girl riding around in her car, just a girl and her elegant, stalwart sentinel.

By the way, there is a thread called something like "What Drew You to the Breed?"
