A warning! For new Doberman owners.

My dads dog does this and one night I got home from work and the front door was wide open. My dad asked me if I left the door open I said no well he had gone to the gas station and we live in the very rural area so he had left the door unlocked. Apparently his dog let all the dogs out and left the front door wide open in the dead of winter haha.
I've been spoiled by a dog like Buddy! 
He has never, (and you know I hate to use that word!) Never raised a paw off the ground. Not to look on a counter, jump on a person, jump on the furniture, nothing. All 4 feet on the ground, all the time, and I love it! He actually came that way! I'm not even sure I would know how to teach that now. Except never allow them on two feet right from the get-go as a pup.
And all our door handles are like that.
I think they would come in handy for a service dog.

I had a cat that could open a door like that. You can install the mechanism upside down so you have to lift up to open the door. Old arthritic hands still have a better grip than a round knob, but the old brain has a hard time remembering to pull up instead of push down. Also wouldn't put it past a smart dog to figure it out eventually... but it worked for the cat.

Jasper has an obsession with going in our bedroom. We have round door knobs but it doesn’t take much to open them. Drives me nuts because when he was younger he went in there and peed on our bed while we were home. We didn’t realize it until bed time. Cleaning a mattress is not fun. It took several days of cleaning and drying with baking soda and detergent until we were content. Now we have a gate up even though he is older. Just never want to go through that again!
LOL I hate the feeling of getting into a nice cozy bed and realizing there's a cold wet spot there. None of our dogs have done it purposely (KOW) but it happened a couple times with Della's incontinence.
Rue never raised a paw either. They don't have to with that long snout.
Apparently it doesn't matter cause that long snout opens the round ones also.
May not matter. My girl opens round ones, no problem. Of course we we are talking about the dog that taught me they make hose locks. Yep, she figured out how to turn the hose off.

You're right! She is an amazing service dog! I'm VERY impressed with how she picked it up so quickly.
It's just challenging and exhausting to own a dog that is way smarter than you.
