Man, I have needed a day like today for a while!
Got up at 7 to take Ivan to get his stitches out and a general check over. Everything is 100%! He's even putting on more weight!
After that I went to get my emissions done since my tags were due in June...but...yeah. welp...Failed that because I reset my battery...oops! But, it gave me 90 days so even if I get pulled over for expeired tags, I'm good!
Sooo, to celebrate a bit, I decided to take Ivan out to the Green Way to let himrun around and get into the water for the first time. That's also where the dog park was, and I know people have warned me, but when walking bybit to the river I just had a gnawing vouce to give it a try.
So I did! Everything went really well. Dogs were nice and well behaved and there was water all around and a nice shady place for sitting. There were some nice ladies there that I sat with and everyone was getting along so well!
Then, out of nowhere, another woman walks up. She starts with pretty generic friendly chatter, but then BAM! "Oh man, that doberman looks awful! He's so skinny!"
I politely explain he is right where the vets want him. Where she then LOUDLY proclaims "I call BS! What vet do you go to? That's total BS! I know dobermans, and even at that age they shouldn't look like THAT..."
The other women I had been talking to are silent. I again, politely, explaine he is fine and further educate the loudmouth about preventing long bone disease and heart disease and a few other things I have learned from this site, other research I have read, and information I got from my vet.
She continues on about how long bone disease and heart disease only affect older SEVERELY obease dogs, and...AND...she should know because she has a major in animal science and worked at a vet clinic for 3 years.
I just nod my head, say "Ah, ok then, well, he gets 6 cups of food a day. Skinny is just how he is..." and end the 'conversation' with that.
The woman hangs around for a bit longer trying to talk to us, but I'm not talking to her, and neither are thenother two ladies I was with, so she eventually walked off.
The two ladies look at me in kind of a weird way, as if to say 'You let her talk to you like that?'. Then finally one asks "so...what Vet do you use?"
I tell them, and add "But I wasn't about to say that with her around. And they are a great clinic that also work with exotics." I went on to explain that what the loudmouth was probably thinking of was hip displasia and other joint issues because long bone disease happens mostky during the bone growth, not after a dog is mature. I alsotook that moment to explain my iwn experience in a vet clinic. They asked why I didn't correct her and my response was "It's a beautiful day and I am feeling too good to ruin it by starting a fight with such a meaningless person."
They laughed and were really nice and said they understood how that made sence and all went back to normal until they had to leave.
I hung out for a while longer but Ivan was pretty much done and I had no one else to talk to. Soooo, I decided to see how he liked the river (the original purpose of the trip lol).
Well...we get down there and he's LOVING it! Made a few more friends down there too. Also....loudmouth apparently had thebdame idea as me and that's where she disappeared to. She tries talking to me again (only god knows why), and I keep my usual polite demeanor and move along.
Then I hear someone say that they hoped there were no snakes around, in which loudmouth has to say "Oh yeah, there's snakes all over the place, but not many of them are poisonous." This freaks out the family that had been talking amongst themselves and they quickly skedatle away, leaving me there to just groan with mild fury.
Normally I don't care when someone makes the mistake of referring to snakes as 'poisonous', but when it's someone who just claimed to have a major in animal science and worked in a vet clinic for ANY amount of time, there is just no excuse to make such a mistake! (For those who may not know, snakes are never poisonous, some are venomous, but never poisonous).
I just let it go though and mske my way down the river with Ivan, whois bounding around and just having SO MUCH fun!
Once he seened to get bored with the shallows I moved into deeper water, and he followed. He had his first swim and he was GREAT!
I am just so proud of my boy!
We stayed out for a few hours, I am now sunburnt, and he is pooped lol. I may take him back tomorrow too depending on weather and just how sore I am after so much activity. (I am not an active person at all, so what I did today was alooot lol).
Anyway, here are some pictures of Ivan making friends and playing in the river!

and had a great day. I don't pay much attention to people, unless they actually know what they are talking about. Given Ivan's whole ordeal it's normal he lost weight and will get back to where he should be. How old is he again ?
