"I’m the clinical trials manager at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. We’re currently running a study testing whether a technique called speckle tracking echocardiography will be able to detect changes in the hearts of Dobermans who have abnormal 24-hour Holter monitor readings but normal standard echocardiograms. Since early-stage DCM can have a subtle presentation, we’re interested in finding better ways to identify and treat the disease.
I’m reaching out to Doberman breed and rescue groups like yours because to see if you would be willing to help me spread the word about the study to owners, veterinarians, rescue coordinators, and breeders who may be aware of Dobermans with early-stage DCM. We also need healthy Dobermans to serve as controls for the study. To be eligible, dogs in either the DCM-affected group or the control group need to be 5+ years of age and otherwise healthy. All study procedures are free.
